Weird fact pattern, and the alien lost. There seems to be underlying the case that he was able to avoid removal, but not mentioned.
But the point of that citation is that some people would consider it "absurd" that your aquaintance be allowed to remain in the United States.

I don't have the details on this fellows offense, therefore I have no opinion of whether or not he should be allowed to remain (not that my opinion counts for much anyway ).
I do have a certain amount of sympathy, because he has a child here. However, if he committed a significant crime, I guess that was his choice, and he may have to live with the consequences.
I just wondered if he potentially had a chance to stay, and I hope that he gets good representation and a fair outcome.
