there is no intent to get married right now, we just aren't there yet. we want to do everything by the book so as not to cause any damage.

The most straight-forward and risk-free way to be together is for her to either file an I129F (which she can do now, assuming you've met in person at least once) or get married and file for a CR1 visa. There's a handy comparison wiki at the top of the forum. |

If *after* arriving you decide you want to get married, there is nothing wrong with filing an application to adjust status. It is a totally legal and valid path to a Greencard based on marriage to a U.S. Citizen.
Many people on this forum parrot information that is not accurate. If you do get married consult and immigration lawyer before you leave. |
