Default Moscow K-1 success

Alëna had her interview Monday, August 4. She said the interview was very
relaxed, but at least 3 ladies were turned away because they lacked some
documentation. We both left for home on Wednesday, she via train to
Yekaterinburg, about 26 hours. The visa was delivered to her home about
noon on Thursday, so it was there before she was!

Ouch, 26 hours by train. Aren't there cheap flights from Moscow to Ykat?
Expedia shows the airfare at about $250 for a 2 1/2 hour flight.
I know trains are cheap, but 52 hours (26 hours each way) is a bit much.

The most I have done in recent years is 8 hours from Moscow to St
Petersburg, but that was overnight in a sleeping roon.

Default Timeline??

Ron -

I know you have posted it sometime in the past but could you please re-post your timeline? We are working our way through the K-3/K-4 process and our approved petition was sent to the NVC on the 12th of March, 2003. Needless to say, we haven't heard anything from Moscow yet. I have been following your case because of similarities to ours. Thanks for your help and all the very best of everything to you and Alena.

Default Thanks Ron

Ron -

Thanks for the useful information. My petition was approved by the MSC on March 11, 2003 and the NVC received it a week or so later. We STILL have not received an invitation for an interview. Of course, when I call I get the usual story, "...since 9/11 the time necessary to [do anything] has [dramatically] increased..." As a practical matter, anything over 120 days is, by the FBI's own definition, not "reasonable". So, I am sending a letter to my US Senator to have someone check on what's up. Your timeline reinforces what I already suspected. All the best to you and yours and thanks again.

Richard III,

Lara and I (for our K-1) were recently approved through the NVC (it
only took 18 days) and our docs have been sent on to Moscow.

The NVC doesn't send you a notice that they have received your
documents from the service center but they do send out a notice that
they have approved your documents and have forwarded them on to the
Embassy.

2nd NOA 7/18/2003
NVC Approval 8/5/2003
Moscow ????? still waiting to find out.

It pleases me greatly that you have had such good fortune at the NVC, however, I am not pleased that the FBI's Record Management Division has apparently dropped OUR ball. I have fired off a letter to one of the US Senators from Colorado who happens to be from my hometown. In it I quoted Robert J. Garrity, Jr., Acting Assistant Director of the Records Management Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from his statement for the record in front of the House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform in Washington, D.C. on July 10, 2003. He said, in part:

“I can tell you, Mr. Chairman, that with the advent of new visa screening requirements in late 2001, specifically the Visa Condor program, the FBI was overwhelmed by the increase in names to be checked. We did experience a backlog, and visas requested in the spring and summer of 2002 were delayed beyond the time period travelers had anticipated. We have all but eliminated the backlog, and have worked together with the State Department to ensure that any old visa requests have been accounted for and processed. The days of what some people would characterize as an unreasonable delay have now passed us by.

Later in Mr. Garrity’s written statement he states,

“A common question we receive is, How long does it take to complete a visa request name check? As shown on these graphs, 86 to 92% are completed in 30 days. For both types of visa requests, 98-99% of the requests are resolved in 120 days.

Under Mr. Garrity's own definition, our approval (or denial) is long overdue. I don't think I have waited too long to act, given that the FBI seems to think that 120 days is reasonable, but I think I MUST take action now that 150 days have past.

I may put this info in an original post so that others may benefit from it.

Good fortune to you and Lara, may you enjoy all the happiness in the world -

Richard III

I am sorry to hear about the hell they put some people thru. After
reading many of the post on global7network and here I was anticipating
a long wait at NVC and even told Lara to expect a long one.

There is not explanation for it. If you or I did this in our regular
jobs we would soon be at the unemployment office.

I would most definitely put this in an original post because you are
not the only one in this situation.

I do recall seeing some FBI and other phone numbers posted on
global7network about this issue but I can't find the post now. Wait
I did find it.

http://www.global7network.com/ru/us_...rity&post=2502

It was posted by Ron on 8/11/2003 in the Security Clearance and
Resubmit Discussions under the title of "All the contacts numbers for
clearance, fbi, dos, moscow.

1. FBI records division - 202-324-3625 personally spoke to Diane

Security Clearance " Name Check" is finished or not. Also ask if they
can confirm whether the NNCP HQ shows the status as Finished/Completed
as well.

2. DOS main #: 202-663-1225 or 202-663-1541-option 0 to bypass

Sharon or Carla.Q. I spoke to Carla who was rather cool to me, but
seemed to understand the situation and was working with her Supervisor
to go through their "processes" to confirm the completion of the
Security clearance.

3. Moscow Embassy fax # (7-095728-5247). Make sure anything you send
is addressed to the Immigration Department.

4. DOS/NVC FAX - attn: Kathryn ( Supervisor)# 603-334-0791. never
spoke to her, but she is one of the supervisors. This is just the fax#

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks you for your response. I greatly appreciate your detailed message. I 'll let you know what I find out. At some point, someone will be able to tell me; a.) the name check is completed and has been passed back to the NVC; or b.) your name check is not complete and the reason is... After over 150 days, someone must know what's up, I just need to find out who that someone is and where they work. I have a low tolerance for incompetence and expect people to be accountable, just as I am in my daily work. Thanks again.
