To all who maintain and contribute to this newsgroup, a thousand thanks!
I'd like my fiancee to get a tourist visa to join her parents in visiting me and my
family in advance of our wedding. At that time, she would not yet have a K-1 visa in
her passport, but would have an application pending...
The K-Visa FAQ made clear that there are not clear answers to my question. I still
would welcome any specific experiences answering these smaller questions:
1) has an alien fiancee's successful visit to the USA on a tourist visa--while
applying for a K-1 -- ever led to a problem later in receiving or entering on
a K-1 visa?
2) when coming into the country, when such "tourist" fiancees have been successful or
unsuccessful in actually entering, what did they say or bring? Did anyone explain
frankly their purpose for entering and/or bring evidence of intent to return home
before returing with a K-1? What happened? I don't want my alien fiancee to lie
upon entering the USA, and not just for moral reasons; I'd worry that such a lie,
if caught, would lead to trouble down the road.
Additional info: As a Korean, my fiancee does not automatically or easily qualify for
a tourist visa, though we think that an application to join her parents probably
would fly.
Thanks so much for any anecdotes that would help!

That would be unlikely. Any problem would occur when the fiance applies for the
tourist visa or enters on the tourist visa, not when the K-1 would be issued.

I understand clearly that you are not a lawyer and that ultimately my fiancee and I
are responsible for our decisions and their consequences. I'd be grateful to know,
however, exactly what you don't reccommend--telling the truth? not telling the truth?
my fiancee trying to come in at all while waiting for a K-1?
Thanks again!

My recommendation:
- do tell the truth
- do not lie
- I would also not even try to get a tourist visa while waiting for the K-1.

The K-Visa FAQ made clear that there are not clear answers to my question. I still

A new class of visa for the INS?
I believe you mean you used the Visa Wavier Program to enter the US from England.
Your experience is irrelevant to the original poster as the VWP is not available to citizens of Korea.
I, too, would say not to even bother trying for the tourist visa for your fiancee. Her parents might be accepted but she will not be. She is young, unmarried and admitted has a romantic relationship with a US Citizen. The Consulate will note "Hmmmmm engaged to a Yank, I see. Going to take Mom and Dad with her to the States to visit the boyfriend. No. Visa Denied!"
Why you ask?
Simple USC Fiancee plus Foreign Fiancee plus Foreign Fiancee's Parents equal Wedding Ceremony.
