Hi,

I have just recently started looking into moving abroad, and have decided that i would like to move to te US. The problem lies with the qualifications i have.

Currently i Have UK degree's in both Diagnostic Radiography (medical) and a degree in Nautical Science (maritime) as i currently work as a seafarer on Foreign going ships.

I already hold a C1 / D visa which allows me multiple entries into the US only on the condition that i am joining a vessel and have assosiated paper work. now upon further looking into the visa / qualifications it seems that the US is intent on saying that my UK qualifications are not good enough i.e my merchant seafarers officers ticket is to STCW95 regs which is the worldwide agreed standard.

does anyone have any advice on these matters and also is there any particular body that deals with the transfer / issuing of equivalent qualifications?

Your post makes little or no sense. A C1/D visa is even lower on the rung than using the VWP, so you needn't think that's part of your arsenal.

Who precisely won't accept your degree as equivalent to a US one?

No visa you qualify for as a radiographer.

Hi:

I have a client who was discharged from a ship while in Venezuela. He was using the C-1 portion of the visa to transit the US -- got off the plane in Miami and did not catch the next flight out in Los Angeles. We were able to adjust him since it was not a "crewman" entry.

That said -- entry as a crewman is a bar to adjustment.

Note that I note adjustment of status -- you could still obtain immigrant status by the immigrant visa status if there is an employer willing to petition for you. But it is a long haul. There are also non-immigrant classifications -- but those involve other problems.

Your case is clearly worthy of further exploration -- but don't expect it to be easy.

I had recently looked into the possibility of comming over as a radiographer and contacted the US Radiologist Technologist governing body whom would certify me as a RT but they said that they would not formally recognise my Radiography degree so at the moment as i am working as an officer in the merchant navy i am looking into the possiblity of going through a US based employer on te basis of my maritime skills and qualifications but thanks for the info provided so far.
