if a non-u.s. citizen marries a u.s. citizen while in the u.s. on a
tourist visa but does not plan to stay in the u.s., will it cause
problems for future entries to the u.s. by the non-usc---in particular
entry simply to visit but not live or work here? will you be hassled
at ports of entry in the future because you have a u.s. citizen spouse
or only if you can't show that you are officially residing elsewhere
(through proof of employment/residence etc.)?
thanks in advance for any relevant info or anecdotes anyone can
provide!

But what kind of a marriage is that? Sex over the phone? or, some kind of a
spiritual marriage?

Hi there,
if both USC and non-USC are married and living outside the US, it
should not be any problem to marry in the US and leave. USC/non-USC
Acquaintances of mine live in London - she kept her maiden name - and
when entering the US, one goes through the USC line, the other through
the visitor line, and neither one of them have ever had a problem.
None of the officers ever thought of asking if they had a USC spouse.
Lately, with INS getting more inquisitive, they take a copy of their
apartment lease in the UK and a copy of their work contract. No-one
has ever asked for it!
On the other hand, if the USC continues to live in the US, and you
come to visit, better make sure you bring all the paperwork...
otherwise, you might run into trouble.

It's the kind of marriage I have!!!!! Not by choice obviously and paperwork is in the works to remedy the situation.......We played the cards dealt, couldn't be together until we got things (money etc )sorted out, but we wanted to be married......
