marriage in US islands
Hi,
My fiance and I are planning to get married next month in one of the
islands. Does anyone know whether Barbados, Bermuda or Cayman Island are
considered
okay for K1 applicants. Since we need to get married in US for eligibility.
Thanks
Kevin

What is a "US island?" Do you mean close to the US in distance? None of
the islands you mention are US territory or possessions as far as I
know. I'm sure Bermuda is part of the Commonwealth and is British
territory.
If you marry on one of the islands wouldn't this technically
"invalidate" the K-1 (if the marriage takes place on the island before
entry to the US)? Also, the K-1 is a single entry visa. If your wife
enters the US and then you leave the US together to marry and your
fiancee does not have advance parole she will be denied re-entry to the
US.
I'm not sure if you could marry with a K-1 in the US Virgin Islands. It
seems safer to me to enter the US on the K-1, stay and marry and then
take a trip to one of the places you mentioned using advance parole.

I would think not! None of those islands are U.S.!!!
If you want to do it in the islands, I suggest St. Thomas or St. Johns. Puerto Rico works as well.
Now if someone else knows otherwise - please tell us! I am planning to get married in the Virgin ISlnds in the Spring - well Summer - ok maybe Fall by the time this is all done.

I understand how romantic it would be to get married in the Carribean. Just
a thought...why not get married in Hawaii? That way you can travel and
still be in the U.S.

I know the Cayman's are British. I wouldn't chance it... they checked Greg's Visa Waiver even when we were going to the US VI (St. John) for a holiday.. I would stay within the 50 states, as you don't want anything complicating you further. You could call the tourist boards of those island to be sure, but I'm pretty sure none that you mentioned are US.

I'd make that the "Lower 48". The only way to Alaska, Hawaii or islands without leaving the US is by air or boat. If something happened to and you was forced to land anywhere other than your intended destination (ie, forced landing in Vancouver, BC) the K-1 is essentially dead. While this is very unlikely, it is still a risk.
A K-1 MAY (repeat MAY) be reauthorized for more than one entry by the consulate as long as it is within the original 90 days of the first entry. Given that the clock is running, I wouldn't consider this as an ace-in-the-hole.

Kevin,
Are you suggesting that any of the places you mentioned are part ot the
US?
None of them are, so you wouldn't use a K-1 to get married there.

PR or the USVI are fine for K-1.
Make sure you don't island hop to islands outside of the US borders
while you are there.

They will check the passport when returning to the 50 states from USVI,
but you will still be able to get back in on a K-1. This has been
verified and reported here multiple times.
