Carl .. that is the whole point of trust.

Probably you are signing something, at that moment, that you swear to be the truth. It may not bite you in the ass for many, many years. But very often it will. Sometime.

You are asked for information and it is presumed you tell the truth. That is the point.

This is what I had understood from the Morgan County website .. I just wanted to be sure I wouldn't be standing there like an idiot with my "proof" 5000 miles away.

Peace. G

Yeah, I guess they figure if you're not "free" to marry then you are breaking the law and it will eventually catch up with you.

Overall, I have had to show my divorce decree far MORE times than my marriage certificate. People/agencies/etc seem to be much more interested in divorce documents for some reason. Maybe they enjoy a good laugh reading the settlements - boy that schmuck got taken to the cleaners...

G, I think Carl meant the question the county clerk asks (have you ever been married) is the stupid one. It's only stupid to us USCs, as we have no national marriage registry like most other countries in the world.

Having just gone through the process of my MIL's death, I experienced first hand going to the Big Book of Records and watching her passing, like her birth and marriage, being recorded by hand. It is indeed a different story over in the US.

At any rate, by the time wedding bells ring, I predict you'll be like the rest of us, carrying everywhere a briefcase of all your most treasured papers

Now that we've moved for the *last* time, I'm looking forward to putting them all away for the next 9 months, until I-751
