Default Marriage/Citizenship

Hi, We have been reading these pages for weeks and decided to join in. We are currently engaged and M is living in US, currently as a permanent resident, her interview for her citizenship is in Sep 08. S is a UK citizen living in England. Our plan is to get married after M's US citizenship comes through, and then go the CR-1 route to S going over there to live. Our first question is does it make any difference about the timescale betwwen M getting her citizenship, and then applying for CR 1 visa. Our second question is does it matter which country we get married in.

Congratulations on all your stuff!

There is no immigration impact WRT timing of marriage relative to oath ceremony. In fact, one of the major benefits of US citizenship is the ability to petition your close family members (according to the Guide To Naturalization) so it is sort of expected.

It also doesn't matter to CIS where you marry.

See you here soon!

This one stumped me for a while. Then I remembered that terrible K3 visa -- doesn't that have a requirement that you must file where you married? Irrelevant for the OP doing CR1 -- but perhaps where the apprehension originated.

Yes, that's true. For the K-3, the visa interview had to take place in the country where you married...unless it was the USA...then it took place in your home country.
