I have receieved my scheduled to be finger printed. I understand that this is to continue processing my I-485. Does anyone have any experience with the INS in the Los Angeles area. I really want to get working now and i know that my wife is getting fustrated at me being bored at home.

If you have filed Form I-485 at INS Los Angeles, *today* you can go to INS
LA and file Form I-765. Your appointment to get your employment
authorization document will be scheduled in a month or two. The day you get
the EAD, you can work legally.
Where did you get your immigration advice? It is sad that you did not know
that you could have filed the I-765 on the same day as the I-485 (assuming
that you filed the I-485 at INS LA), and you could be working by now.

Thanks for the reply, I Filed the I-130,I-485 and the I-765 with the correct filing fee's and the finger printing fee to the INS in LA. So I understand that i should have heard about the I-765 by now. Is there anyway of finding out when i go to get my finger prints done?

Fingerprints are taken at an INS application service center, which is a kind
of satellite INS office. They won't have any idea what is going on with
your I-765.
The fastest way to find out is to make an inquiry in person at INS Los
Angeles. The only practical alternatives to that are to hire an attorney to
inquire, or to ask your Congressperson for help. The Congressperson route
may take longer.
