Default Looking for info/advice

My Fiancee lives in Saigon, Vietnam. We were engaged in April 2003
when I went to visit her. After a lot of confusion and bumbling on my
part, I mailed the K1 visa forms, and all the documentation required
by the packet I got from the INS, in October. In November I received
a notice from the INS that it would be about 6-8 months before the
process was complete and that they had received my 110 bucks. I live
in Texas.

My fiancee is very worried about her interview. She seems to think
that she will not pass it. I have done my best to encourage her but
it isn't easy. Can anyone tell me when and by whom she can expect to
be interviewed? Any and all advice in this regard would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Evrard,

Don't know how much you know abou the K1 process, but since I'm going through Texas (TSC) as well, I can give you an approximate timeline. We sent off our petition in early Aug. We were told 150-180 days (at that time; it could be higher now). After it is approved at TSC, it will go to the National Visa Center for some further checks, and then forwarded on to the overseas consulate. It could take anywhere from a few days to many months before it will leave the NVC. When it reaches the Vietnamese Consulate, I'm also not sure how long it will take for her to get her interview. All in all, I would assume at least 2-4 after it is approved at Texas before she will go through the interview. It could be quicker than that, or slower than that (not sure how fast or strict the Saigon consulate is).

From what others have said, as long as she brings all the required documents with her to the interview, and there are no further complications or issues (usually at the discretion of the ConOff (consulate officer), she could get the visa approved very easily on the day of her interview). Best advice is to research ahead of time, know what is needed and make sure she takes it with her to the interview.

Know this isnt' much, but hope it helps!

Hi Jamie

Thank you very much for the information. I have been just as worried
as she has, and I have few people available to discuss the subject
with in a meaningful way. Perhaps the main reason for my unease is
the fact that I miss her terribly. One bit of information I am
qualified to offer to anyone who reads this thread..... if you have
yet to meet your beloved in their homeland, I give you fair warning-
no matter your opinion of the country, the food, the weather....when
you have to tell her (or him) goodbye at the airport, it will be one
of the most difficult things you have ever done. Cherish each moment
that the two of you are together, because you will have many lonely
hours on that long international flight to think about those moments.

Thanks again, Jamie

Evrard
