Looking for Brits in NC/ SC

Re: Looking for Brits in NC/ SC
It's great to meet you. What brought you to NC? I see you're a citizen too, how was that? I'm still in two minds about trying for split citizenship but I have heard it's a bit of a pain so we're weighing it all up right now. I have just under a year on my temp green card right now tho so there's no hurry I guess.
How are you finding life in the south? I love it but I still get homesick and there's a real lack of Brits this end or so it seems.

Yes the traffic is a nightmare, especially at rush hour. I must admit that I don't think I could manage if I didn't drive as Charlotte is so spread out.

Re: Looking for Brits in NC/ SC
Yeah I agree. I was kinda spoiled back in the Uk I think- there was never a need to drive really so the fact that we have the zoning you get here was a real shock. My husband has made it a LOT easier tho and I have made some great and understanding friends!! Fingers crossed tho, I'm working on my driving!!

Hey there!!
I'm a recent-ish transplant to NC (18 mos) and would like to meet other brits living here. I keep hearing about you all but I NEVER meet anyone!! :curse:
You know, when you go in to a shop and they ask where you're from and then they give you the run down of all the places they have ever been in their fabulous life and the British people they know... ALL OF WHOM I HAVE NEVER MET!!!
OK, that's my gripe over. I am a calm and friendly person, honest!! It just seems that there are apparently a ton of Brits in my area and they're all invisible!! Prove me wrong, that it's not consipracy!!!
So, if you are in the NC/ SC area and would like to meet up with/ chat to a fellow hybrid then let me know.
Take care!

Oh wow, yeah if you're anywhere near Charlotte, let me know. Have you been here long?

18 yrs. & what a ride it's been! Were moving to nearby Greensboro, where my wife is originally from and she wants to move back home. I don't really care where I live, it's pretty much all the same to me, as long as I'm with my family.

Aww, that's lovely!! I guess nothing is like Jolly Old England but I know from my experience here's pretty decent too. At the end of the day, family is the real home. Good luck on the move!!

By the way, did I call you mate earlier? Sorry, my bad.
Anyway, I'm opening a small chain of restaurants in Greensboro and the surrounding territories at the moment, but who knows, maybe I'll open one down in Charlotte too?
Take care.

Hi Kirby,
You're not from merseyside are you? Also we're thinking about moving house to kernersville as well! So, maybe we'll see you there!
In answer to your question: probably not, although I would dearly love to!
This is due to the fact that in my experience, it doesn't work over here!
Back home, it's the atmosphere generated by the punters, you see, something that's lacking over here. I'm not criticising the bars over here, there are plenty of great ones! It's just different and impossible to replicate!
Have you ever been in a Brit pub over here? If you get the chance, check it out, you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, great to here from you, give us a buzz sometime, and maybe we'll see you down in Kernersville?
Take care,
Simon

kernersville is nice, we (hubby and 2 kids) have lived here for just 7 months, but we find it a nice place to live. It would be great to meet up sometime if you do move here.
Good luck with the restaurants.
Angela.
