Default London Medical Question

After what seems like forever, but was actually of a normal timeline,
London has given me packet 4 and an interview date of November
15th.(must have been the constent bugging of them) my question is
though, for the medical you need a vaccination history document, after
talking to my nurse she agreed that I have had all my shots (I also
remember getting them and still have a scar from one of them.) The
problem is that the hospital has lost my record of vaccinations. Will
I be denied on the basis of not having proof of these shots or will
the Dr at my medical give the shots to me there. I am worried incase
this damages my visa application.

Chrissy.. Yes, Dr Phenlan will have the injections for you there but they will cost something nasty on top of the £125 you will have to pay.. Ie £20-£30 pounds per shot.
While you are here and covered by the NHS, get a MMR and Diptheria (adult) and Tetanus at the very least.. You dont need the Hep one as far as I know.. I did have all my shots here a couple of months ago.. No cost but it depends on your health authority too..
Much also depends on how long ago you had your shots.. The Doctor should have the shots records on your medical history, not the hospital but that depends on your age too.. Im in my 40s and it was the Doctor that gave me all my childhood shots..

Hi Chrissy

i had my medical on the 25th october ,i hadnt had my shots either so i was worried too,Dr Phellan will do them and charge you an arm and a leg, but he will also tell you if you are going for a K-1 that you dont need them untill you get here but that will also cost alot,i got mine done 2 days before i left England from my Dr and didnt cost anything, tetnus and mmr are all you need.
good luck it seems scary but is so easy and nothing to worry about.

In addition to what others have said...
I was in your position and discussed this with Dr Phelan, I paid for the MMR and TDDip but was excused the Tetanus. The reason for this is that (as I discovered) you can OD on tetanus if you have too many - so if you are up to date on that one tell Dr Phelan. He was happy to take my word for it.

Other than that don't worry - the medical isn't fearsome and the Dr and his staff do this all the time - whatever your circumstances they've heard it before - you won't be denied.
good luck

what i am wondering is.. what if you have a moral or religious reason for not having them?
i'm surprised with all the talk about the problems with the mmr over there that more people don't refuse it.
i know my fiance will probably have to be hogtied to get it, as he's lost his records too and he has been using holistic medicine for the last twenty years.
the only one he would need besides that is the tetanus. he doesn't agree with vaccinations at all, and i read that you can get waivers? does any one know about this, or know of anyone who has refused them?

Have never heard of a waiver for not getting shots, if there is one i wish i
had found out about it before i had my MMR i took a reaction and was out of
it for over a week.

Even if you are concerned about the alledged links between MMR and autism, I
don't see how that would concern an adult getting the shot!!!

Andy.

Thanks to everyone that answered my question. I can get new shots
before I leave for the states free of charge from my Dr, but I cant
get an appointment until after my interview date, thats why I was
worrying, but thank you for putting my mind at ease.

those were my concerns and for that reason my own children hadn't had the shots
before now. when it came to the point that they seemed to have no choice
because of the move to the US they were 8 and 6 years old and, although still
unhappy (a friend of mine's one-year-old had regular febrile convulsions after
mmr and she was not the only one), i felt easier knowing they were older and
their immune systems stronger and more able to deal with the invasion. i'm not
sure how i'd have felt had the children been a lot younger when we faced all
this, or what decisions i'd have made.

i have moral as well as health objections to mmr (the moral objections are to
do with the way the vaccine was developed using aborted foetuses, but that's
well off-topic) and i did hear if you can prove it's against your religion or
some such (possibly a clause for Jehovahs Witnesses, for example, i don't
know??) you can get some kind of waiver. i think if the girls had been a lot
younger i'd have pursued this possibility as far as i could, though i'm not
sure my moral objections would count as religious - ho hum.

Hi Pete,

My daughter and I also need to get our vaccinations up to date. My problem is, what do I say at my local doctor's surgery? That we need to update our vaccinations because we are emigrating? Maybe I am just feeling paranoid, I was just thinking they would not take kindly to that. Has anyone had experiences of this please?

Thanks,

Debbie

ask for any money though. just flexing their muscles.
