Default London I-130 interview tips

Hi All,

Just a few tips and comments regarding the I-130 interview process in London.

The Medical

The line starts to form outside the doctor's from 0730 onwards. No need to get there
that early, it doesn't guarantee you an earlier place. When you go in you will be
given a checklist. The quicker you hand in your stuff when asked, is the order you
get called in for the medical. Nowhere in packet 4 does it mention what you need
other than the inoculations.

Take with you, your passport, one of the 4 photos required. In the details from the
Embassy, it advises you not to take anyone with you that isn't having a medical, due
to lack of room. There is enough room in the upstairs waiting room, but not
downstairs.

In packet 4 it states that if you require inoculations you need to pay cash. They do
take visa for the inoculations.

The medical consists of a blood test done by the nurse, a chest x-ray done by the
radiographer and then a chat with the doctor.

The Interview

Not at all what I expected! Very informal! As stated in my previous email, the
threshold you need to avoid having a joint sponsor is $70,000.

If you hit a snag, don't just take the word no. Think on your feet, of possible ways
round the problem, and suggest them, they may just reconsider!

Don't take a large suitcase with you to the Embassy, they may not let you
in. Small amounts of hand luggage are possible. You will need to hand in your mobile
phone at the security checkpoint.

If you need to get the photos done for the interview, there are 2 of the recommended
places within a short distance of the Embassy. Passport Photo services on Oxford St
near to Dixons and opposite Selfridges open 9-6. Also Gould Pharmacy on N. Audley St.
between Oxford St and Grosvenor Square.

There are quite a few smaller hotels near to the doctors. From here it is a 10 minute
walk to the Embassy. The Thistle Marble Arch is where I stayed. This is on Bryanston
St/Portman St/Oxford St, halfway between the doctor's a nd the embassy.

Hope this is of use to those still to go through the process.

Regards,

Mark Gerrard

Thanks for that all Mark. I have mine in just over 2 weeks. I don't suppose you have
a phone number for that hotel or a price for a basic room...which would help those of
us travelling from the real frozen north? One other question.....if you are missing
innoculations........can as I am led to believe get them from your own GP later or
indeed in America prior to AOS? Thanks for the hints/tips

Mark Whe did you file your I-130 petition (just to get an idea of how long it takes
to get an interview)? Thanks

The interview day runs from 8am till about 1pm.

Copies (plain old photocopies) of tax returns are fine; the originals, presumably, were posted to the IRS.

If your interview is for I-130 since you are already married you don't need any of
the proof of relationship items. Just bring whatever is mentioned on the packet 4
instructions. As long as the I-864 is in order (and all the other forms, of cours)
there should be no problems. The "interview" is a five minute discussion at most (at
least ours last year was). There really is nothing to worry about.

If I'm mistaken and you are interviewing for a K-1 then ignore what I've written.

I have my interview next week and just wanted to double check w/ you that the
threshold before you require a joint sponsor is $70,000 in assets? It looks to me
that 125% of the 2002 poverty guidelines is $14,925. Multiplying that by 5 (for the
five years) should equal $74,625. I just wondered if $70,000 will be enough or if I
will require the full $74,625??

I'm starting to worry!

Sam
