Letter of employment for AOS interview
My husband and I have an appointment for his AOS interview tomorrow
morning. I was just going
through everything to make sure we have all of our paperwork in order, and
I don't have a letter from
my employer. I am not on very good terms with my boss's wife at the moment
and when I asked her for
a current letter, she gave me attitude saying that she had already given
me one when we first sent in our forms
to INS and she wasn't going to do another one. I tried explaining to her
that I needed it, but she won't hear
anything of it. So I muttered something about if my husband's application
is denied then we're moving to the
UK and left it at that. BTW, I work in a very small office and my boss's
wife works in the front office and does
all of the payroll/HR stuff. My boss also happens to own the company.
We just got our appointment letter less than a week ago so I haven't had
enough time to really drill her or
my boss for the letter. Is this going to be a huge problem? I have all of
my check stubs from the day I
started for that company - almost two years ago - and it has all of the
informaion on it that they want (how
many hours, rate of pay, etc.)
I'm just really worried that the interviewer is going to send us away with
a big fat denied stamp on our
application because my boss's wife is a witch.

I believe you can use two current paystubs in lieu of a letter from your employer.

It depends upon the DAO conducting the interview. Probably the paycheck stubs will be sufficient. Also, you have your W-2 now [or should].

It has been my experience with AOS and with the written checklist of needed items from USCIS that the employment letter is not about annual pay verification but about the issue of who is beneficiary of company plans you are enrolled in, marital status claimed on your W-4, emergency contact information, etc.

Re: Letter of employment for AOS interview
YAY! I ended up not needing it! She IS a complete cow, and she wouldn't
sign it if I
wrote it up myself. She said my boss had to sign it and since my job
requires me to be out
of the office for almost the whole day, I hardly had a chance to ask my
boss to sign anything.
Anyway, 2 current stubs and my W-2 was plenty. The interview went well -
it was in Detroit.
We got there about 10 minutes before 10:00, and waited in the line to go
through security.
We finally got in the door around 10:10 and put the appointment letter in
the box and proceeded
down the hall to have a seat and wait. There were a TON of people there so
we thought we were
in for a long wait. I barely had time to get my coat off when they called
us in!! From the time we got
in the door until the time we walked out, we were there for about 20
minutes. I think the ink on his stamp
was still wet. LOL

Same here so if you have plenty of evidence of that sort of thing already it
should be unnecessary. Which, in this case, it appeared to be. As
Folinskyinla says it's up to the DAO so if she had the boss's wife's twin
interviewing her she'd have been in bad shape. Sounds like she needs to find
a new job!
