Default LAX POE success!

Yup,
I've arrived in the USA! I went through LAX from Australia on an
Immigration Visa (via I-130, spouse of a USC), on Sunday November 17th.

The whole process, from arriving in the immigration hall, to walking to
baggage pickup and customs took about an hour, most of which was waiting for
the USC queues to finish so an immigration officer was free to process me.

Following advice from others on this board I went through the permanent
residents queue and was directed to the end booth for final processing. Put
my documents on the table as directed and took a seat. The immigration
officer took immense trouble to get a clear right forefinger print (I think
it took about 15 tries with constant injunctions to me to get the fingertip
as dry as possible). When he was happy with the result I sat down again and
waited a few minutes more. Then he called me up and went through the
contents of the brown envelope with me and told me to sit and wait some
more. After about 3 minutes he got me to sign against the fingerprint
impressions, handed me a notice to apply for removal of conditions within
two years and handed me my passport with the I551 stamp and my alien number.

Phew!!!!

Yesterday I went to Social Security in Scottsdale, showed them my
passport, confirmed a few details and was told to expect the SSN in 10
working days.

Now all I have to do is get used to driving on the right! :-))

Hi:

Welcome to the USA. The fingerprint card with the signature is the I-89 card which is used to generate the actual "green card" on form I-551 which you should eventually get in the mail.

I was LOL at the fingerprinting. I often practice with my clients in preparing for an interview so as to save that 15 minutes in the interview! As you know, the fingerprint is a "tap" print rather than a "roll" print.

As a pointer to others, do NOT "help" the INS officer take the print. Offer your hand, let it go limp and then stare off into the distance or at some member of the opposite sex. It will go a lot quicker at that point!
