Hello-

My K3 is being processed through the Islamabad Consulate. My timeline so far is:

NOA1: September 30
NOA2: Deember 16

NVC gets my approved I-129: December 26
NVC sends my application to Islamabad: December 30

I called the NVC and the Islamabad embassy, and the women were VERY helpful. Jane at NVC said that the petition is sent as an electronic file attachment to the embassy, and it takes about 10 business days to receive and process it. The woman in Islamabad told me that once they receive it, it takes 24 hours for them to send out the packet, and an interview is scheduled. I asked her about background checks,a nd she said that for K3 visas, a background check isn't necessary as long as the interviewing officer thinks one is NOT needed. If he or she feels that the beneficiary is hiding something or lying, then a background check will be necessary.

Police reports are required (they weren't pre 9/11), and she also said for me to send a copy of my passprt and birth certificate. She also said financially, they do NOT need W2 forms, but to send the if I have them. They also want emails between the two of us (to show that we still keep in contact), and a job letter (in duplicate).

I asked her if my husband would be with me for Eid-ul-Zuha, and she said that as long as the interviewing officer doesn't think he needs to have a background check, then yes, he would! I was so happy that I started crying! We had to miss our first Eid together, but hopefully not our next!

Well, I hope this information helped, and if you would like to know anything else, let me know!

Thanks a lot guys, any info is helpful at this point. I am just worried cuz i heard it is harder to apply for a Pakistani husband since they do background checks on all males. DOes anyone know if the process is faster if we apply through a lawyer? Our lawyer said it would still take more than 6 months! Pray that all goes well with us... Oh yea and he lives in Karachi, i guess they will go through the consulate there right?

Hi!

My wife is coming from Karachi, Pakistan. Here's our timeline for
the K3 so far:

1st NOA 9/10/02
2nd NOA 12/2/02 online
NVC letter 12/12
- now waiting for Packet 3 to arrive

There is only Islamabad Consulate which you're going to have to deal
with. The other ones were closed few years ago so plan on travelling
there for the interview. Good Luck!

No, all visas (immigrant & non-immigrant) issued in Pakistan
are from the Islamabad consulate. Karachi stopped issuing visas
many years ago, Lahore just recently.

Hi Salooni!

My 2nd NOA was unexpectedly quicker. I had braced myself for a much
longer wait but, luckily, that didn't happen. But now I am worried
about Packet #3 because my wife still hasn't received it and NVC said
they mailed out the case to Islamabad on Dec 12. I just hope
everything is ok and this is just a normal holiday season delay. This
wait is frusturating to say the least because we cannot do anything to
hurry it up.

Best Regards,

JM

Hi!
You haven't seen any updates on P3 because there aren't any! I am
still waiting for my wife to get P3 in the mail. Actually, I am about
to call the Islamabad Consulate soon to find out what's up.

FWIW, I'll keep posting progress/lack thereof until my wife is here on
US soil. This newsgroup is the only place I can gleam valuable info
and vent my feelings and if this helps other people too then that's
great also!

Hi!
I just called the Islamabad Consulate to find out about my wife's K3
case which was sent to the consulate by NVC on 12/11. The lady over
there said that at this point in time, they are processing cases sent
to them at the end of November. She said to call back in about a week
to ten days and check again. Phew! That's a bit more comforting to
know. I guess they are just slightly backlogged probably because of
the holidays.

Lizzie1977 & Ayisha: You can guess where you are in the queue with
your spouse's P3!

Hope this helps,

JM
