K3 and CR 1 difference
I previously posted about my husband's friend. Here is a quick
rundown. He married a Canadian woman back in 2000 in the U.S., took
her back to Canada to see her folks and kids without filing for AOS,
AP, etc. His wife was denied entry back into the U.S. He remained in
Canada where he gained his residency, could not find a job there and
returned to the U.S. in August 2003 with the hopes of finding a job
and being able to petition to bring her back. Seven months later - no
job. He did get a job back in February but lost it due to him having
to have a hernia surgery. The man is 54 years old, I think age is
working against him here with regards to jobs. He used to be a
professional truck driver by trade but can no longer work in that
field. He is determined to still get a job and to be able to bring
his wife here. He will not under any circumstances ask his father to
be a co-sponsor. HIs father is 84 years old. He does not have anyone
else to ask to co-sponsor.
I came over on a K1 myself so know nothing about the K3. I believe
someone mentioned about the CR 1. What is the difference between the
two?
My husband and I are planning to have him come over to our home
sometime this week or weekend and want to provide information
(options). My husband had talked to his friend on the phone yesterday
and said his friend still does not have a clue as to the immigration
process. My husband said he asked if his friend would be contacting
immigration and he claims yes but when my husband asked him if he
planned on bringing his wife on a K3, his friends simply asked, "what
is that?" He's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
I'm assuming if the friend ever gets a job and will not get a
co-sponsor, it will work much the same way as the K1 does with regards
to having enough money to support her. The way the job situation is
in this state and the low wages, I can see this taking years. I still
think the guy is better off going back to Canada. Just my opinion.
His wife receives a disability pension there.

If you enter on K-3, you have to file for adjustment of status, like the
K-1. You would also need to get EAD to work. You wouldn't start
accruing time toward citizenship until you become a permanent resident.
A CR-1 is a permanent resident immediately after clearing Immigration
at the Point Of Entry.
