we didnt go with a fruit cake either! I like light sponge cakes, with strawberry filling. we also had chocolate covered pretzels and pretzel sticks on the tables.

I wanted proper icing on the cake but walmart did whipped cream icing (im not a fan of cream) still it looked pretty....

Oh yes - hubby is quite mystified with our idea of wedding cakes!

That said, he LOVES the idea of baby and wedding showers so...

We did a carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I wouldn't touch that fruit cake stuff with someone else's mouth! I didn't know til after that fact that fruit cake was the traditional wedding cake to have, but none of the Brit in-laws complained, so I assume it went down ok!

Honestly, I sorta cheated a bit when it came to planning our wedding. We didn't want to have 2 weddings (a 'civil' one and a 'religious' one), but since it was a first wedding for both of us we still wanted it to be special (of course!)...and we wanted both our families to attend. So right after we got NOA2 for the I-129f, we picked a day about 5months out for our wedding. I was a busy engineer, and obviously OH wouldn't know anything about weddings (truthfully neither did I), so we decided to get married in Gatlinburg, Tennessee (sort of the Las Vegas of the South). I found a chapel that would do an all inclusive - wedding, reception, photographer, video, photo album, etc for a flat fee. I did do my own flowers, and chose my own dress. We had a small reception at the chapel after the ceremony where we did the cake and punch (no alcohol), and then we took everyone out to dinner afterwards.

All in, I think we spent around $4k and all the important folks got to celebrate with us. We thought about having a reception back home for all of my friends to celebrate with us, but it never happened..and 5yrs later, I don't feel like I missed anything.

That's what Sheila and I did. We stayed in Gatlinburg but actually got married here in Townsend a few miles to the west of Gatlinburg. Ate at the Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge... had a great time! Wow... in a few months, that'll be 12 years ago! My, but the time does fly!
