Default K1 Visa question for Rio interview

I have asked a few questions here and have appreciated the replies. My fiance
just mailed her letter of readiness to the embassy in rio, and she has already
received my packet of info. I have 2 questions...1) Does she have to pay money
at the interview? It seems I am not clear on this. Is there a fee?? 2) She
wants to know if she can book TWO flights here because of the expense. Her
final destination will be Chicago, but can she fly to lets say to New York, and
then fly from there to Chicago?? Or does her initial flight itinerary have to
be from Brazil to Chicago? Thanks for any help- Michael & Rita

No.

She can fly into any airport she wants and from there go to Chicago. It does not need to be a direct flight.

As an afterthought, she'll want to leave a *lot* of time between the two flights (at least 2 hours, I would think) as there will be a lot of paperwork to complete at that first airport - that'll be her official port of entry. Good luck.
