REPOST UNDER NEW SUBJECT
Sorry to all that have already read this but there were no reponses. Thought
maybe I would try and solicit them under a different guise.
I havent heard this one discussed and I thought I might run it by to see if
anyone has any knowledge of it.
Short synopsis...I am USC, wife here on K1 (currently preparing AOS paperwork),
3 month old baby (USC).
I am looking into getting Hoosier Healthwise (Medicare or Medicade Insurance,
not sure which is which) for the little one. Anyway, its a goverment sponsored
health plan where I would basically receive free or cheap coverage depending on
my income. I am currently going under the presumption that this will have no
affect on my wife's AOS (as far as Aff of Support and public charge
disqualification) since the baby is a USC and my wife will not be receiving any
of these benefits. I will not be putting my wife on the plan (unless someone
can show me that its OK).
Well, any thoughts, comments, complaints, commentaries, words of advice/wisdom,
etc.....
Thanks,
Jason

I dont' know what state you live in, but please note that I live in California and the knowledge I possess about these health benefits is strictly for this state. I don't know if these same health programs are in other states because i can't remember if it was federaly funded or just state funded program, but I seem to recall that these same low cost health insurances were popping up all over the country about 6 years ago.
Any way, you should call them directly and ask. Being up front is always your best bet in these circumstances. You obviously don't want to do anything that would affect her status.

It is called Healthy Families. It is extremely low cost health care provided by private insurances like Kaiser or Blue Shield but is backed by state funding. The cost was between 4-12 dollars per month. This health coverage I am speaking of is not considered public assistance or government assistance and would not affect some one that is here on a K-1. In addition, if your child is a USC and your child will be the only one recieving the health benefit then it should not affect your fiancee's status at all. In this particular case though, Healthy Families specifically, even your wife could utilize the benefits with no ill effect to her status.

We had premature twins before we filed for adjustment of status (for me)
and received Medicaid (or medicare don't know which it was) for them
(automatic for premature infants and lasts for 1 year) and it had no
affect on us. As long as the immigrant doesn't use it there is no
problem - at least not in Montana.
Hope that helps.
