My K1 interview is in 2 days at the vancouver consulate... I've seen this happen
to other people on the ng and now it's happening to
me: form-o-mania. This is a strange kind of affliction that results in
second-guessing everything and even affects daily activities i.e. do I really
want to cross the street now and if so how will that affect future street
crossings? If this question means this and that means that, then what does this
question mean?!

Any help with these 2 issues greatly appreciated:

1. The K1 process includes 3 major forms (caps mine for emphasis):
a) DS-230 Part 1 Bio Info Application for IMMIGRANT Visa and Alien Registration
b) OF-156Y NONIMMIGRANT Visa Application
c) DS-156K NONIMMIGRANT Fiancee Visa Application

So what am I? Immigrant or nonimmigrant?!

2. On OF-156Y I'm unsure how to answer the following:

a) question 24. How long do you plan to stay in the US? Do i answer "indefinitely"
(too vague?) or "forever" (not particularly true - we want to live in Canada
again) or "5-10 yrs" (suspicious?)

b) question 26. Have you or anyone acting for you ever indicated to a US consular or
INS a desire to immigrate to the US... Has anyone ever filed an immigrant visa
petition on your behalf? Do I answer "no" or does my USC fiance filing the "I-129
Petition for Alien Fiance" count as a "yes"?

thanks in advance for your suggestions.

K1 is a non-immigrant visa. But the DS-230 is just a multi-purpose form for
biographical info. So fill it in.

"Indefinitely" is not too vague. And circumstances change, don't they?

I said "Only with this K1 application". It worked for me.

Good luck.

Laura,

1. You're a non-immigrant. Until you apply for Adjustment of Status. Then you're in purgatory until the adjustment is approved.

2. 'Indefinite' is my choice, as it covers all possibilities. Forever is clearly not going to happen, although many people seem to chose it. I guess it's accurate, though, if your remains stay after your essence has departed.

3. The anecdotal evidence is that either 'yes' or 'no' will work, with 3 or 4 words of explanation. The question is really not relevant to a K1 visa, but it would be significant for a B1/B2.

Regards, JEff
