I am in the UK and engaged to a US citizen. Do I need her to sign a I-134 prior to my
US Embassy interview, even though she is not financially able to sponsor me, and I am
more than able to support myself financially when we marry in the US? Thanks David,
London, UK

They don't care what your income is. You can use your income once you have lived
together for six months, but for now you guys are going to need a co-sponsor. I
finished college a year ago, and have yet been able to find full-time permanent work.
Though, I have a substantial amount of cash assets, it's not enough for the five year
requirement, so my aunt and uncle are going to sponsor us. Tell your fiance to start
hitting up her family and friends for this part of your journey.

She will need to sign one, and if you have assets that you are using to assist in
that, you need to present clear evidence of those at the interview. If you are
counting on employment in the US being your part of the sponsorship, that is not
allowed, however your assets are allowable. The US citizen is ALWAYS the primary
sponsor EVEN IF the US citizen does not have the financial means to do so. Alvena
