K1
I am an American citizen. I intend to marry a Russian woman.
As I understand I can marry my fiancée in Russia and file I-130 or file for K1 to bring her here. What is the fastest way to bring her in US? |
K-1 is fastest.
|
I married my wife in India filed for K3 on Dec 16th, my wife has her interview on May 5th and on the 12th we will be returning to the US.
Looking at "thing1"'s timeline, it would seem that my K3 timeline is faster. So to answer your question, depending on WHERE you are located and the service center you deal with, K1 might be faster, or the K3 might be. Regards |

What is the fastest way to bring her in US? Usually, the K-1 is the fastest. Expect about six months to a year. By the way, there is another difference: with the K-1, you must marry in the US. With an I-130, you must already be married. Unless she has a tourist visa, this means marrying in Russia. Since a wedding with the family is important for some people, this may be a factor to take into account. |

I have heard over and over again here when the "K-1 or K-3" question comes up that K-1 (under normal circumstances) is the fastest route. Which is why I said depending on the service center you deal with, K1 might be blisteringly fast or on par with the K3. As I applied for the K3, I went through MSC. Regards |

Otherwise, you have to wait until there is one available for you at your turn. That's the time consuming for the marriage based visa. K1 doesn't fall into that catogory. Actually, K visa is non immigrant visa with the intent to stay. It's just like a visitors visas. I may be wrong here. However, that's what I understand. There is NO quota for Immediate Relatives (spouses IE marriage-based) from *any* country that I'm aware of, after over a year of reading immigration rules. And I'm not even going to look up the Dept. of State rule on it for you. |

What is the fastest way to bring her in US? There is also a process called "Direct Consular Filing" which applies to marriages outside the US. Some people say this is faster. It depends upon if the consulate in russsia allows it. |

Originally posted by Jenney & Mark I agree with Meauxna. I've been dealing with this immigration stuff for nearly a year now, and I've *never* heard of marriage-based visas having a "quota" or a "cap" applied to them. Where are you getting this information?? Please provide a link. ~ Jenney Since the OP is a citizen, there is no limit. |
