Default K-3/K-4 Visa

I am new to posting in a news group, but I need some information. Let me set
the stage a little first.

About 2 years ago, I met my future wife online. At first, we would talk
about 3 times a week. This lasted for about 2 months, then we started
talking for about 3 hours everyday. We got to know each other very wee, and
started falling in love. In June of this year, I finally made the trip to
Istanbul to met her. We became engaged, with her families blessing. They all
attended the engagement ceremony, with her brother-in-law acting as
moderator. We talked it over, and he arranged for my return trip, in
September. We were married September 18th, in Istanbul.

After the first trip, I downloaded both petitions, I-130, and I-129F. I
filled out the 130 and mailed it to California, then did the same with the
129F, sending it to Chicago, as instructed. The 130 was recieved on 8/18/05,
and the 129F was recieved on 9/8/05. The information on the USCIS website
says it takes from 60
to 90 days for processing. Day 60 was 11/7.

What I need to know is, how much longer do we have to wait, before she can
get her visa? Will I need to arrange another trip to Istanbul, before they
approve it?

Congratulations on your marriage!

If you go to uscis.gov and look on the right hand menu, you'll see a link for Processing Times. From there, you can get an immediate look at the dates they are currently working on. The time estimates on your receipts are only estimates, and not very accurate ones at that.
At the same link, you can register an account with uscis and get updates via email for when something specific happens with your petitions.

When your petition is approved, it is sent to the National Visa Center where the visa application process begins. From there, your case is sent on to the Consulate, who will eventually schedule an interview appointment for your wife.

I have no idea what the posted dates are at this moment, but currently, a typical K-3 visa (from the I-129f) or Immigrant Visa (from the I-130) would take 6-8 months for completion (when your wife can come to the US).

I have a feeling that this news won't be well-received. And, I imagine you'll have more questions. Hang in there, and if there is a current K-3 petitioner around the board, they will chime in. You might also find some useful information at visajourney.com (home to the group FAQ) including specifics on the paperwork that your wife can start gathering in preparation.
Good luck!

Chronology of Events so far

Your I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN was received
on August 15, 2005. We mailed you a receipt with information about
processing. It is taking between 990 and 999 days for us to process this
kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

Your I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) was received on September 8, 2005. We
mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between
60 and 90 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a
decision as soon as processing is complete

It states on my account that this file was updated on the 19th of September.
I think that is meaning that they sent for my initial file in California,
and recieved it on that day.

Hi Eddie,

My Iranian fiance and I met in Istanbul, too (several years ago) and went through the consulate in Ankara in April 2004 for his K-1 visa. Although our visa processing is different from yours, I can help you if you have any questions about the workings of the consulate in Ankara.

I don't know where your wife is from, but if she's Iranian I can also help with some of the specifics on that. If she's Turkish, it will be a much more smooth operation for you guys.

Just wanted to make an appearance here and let you know I'm happy to help you, if you need it.

Best Wishes,
Rene
