Default K-1 Visa Process in Spain --- duration

Hello my friends,

I am engaged to a Spainish citizen and we are planning on getting
married next year. We have done a great deal of research via this
website and others and are now trying to determine when precisely to
iniciate the process. He is finishing up school right now but should
finish sometime in July of 2003, and I'm wondering if anyone has had
experience with K-1 visa acquisition in Spain. We don't want to begin
too early because we worry the visa might expire before he finishes
(in case there is some sort of delay in graduation) but we also want
him to be able to come over here as soon as possible. I'm guessing
that it takes about six months from the time I submit the I-129F to
the time they actually grant him the visa and put it in his passport.
Is this way off?? Have there been many changes since 9/11 in delays??
Please, if you have any idea of how to proceed respond as soon as you
can. Thank you so much, and thanks to all who have contributed to
this website and made it such a reliable and valuable resource!!!

Lisa

ok

This is just the one question for me as I have just done the k1 processin Spain ;-)

I arrived to the US on my k1 a week and a half ago and the timing was more or less like this:

Send I-129f at the end of July 2002 via Vermont
Get 1 NOA around 5 August
Get 2 NOA around 25 August
Get packet 3 from the embassy around 31 August (Vermont cabled!)
Medical at the beggining of september
Packet 4 and appoinment for interview around 20 September
Interview November 6

It will all depend a lot on what service center you are dealing with. As long as with my case they had no administrative reviews in Spain at that moment and they were very nice at me (as long as I had all the paperwork)...

If you want details read my thread : Interview k1 visa in Madrid, Spain from couple of weeks ago or PM me.

best,
groovy

Another route you may want to explore is the Direct Consular Filing.
Here's a link explaining it.......
