K-1 Visa..Please help !
 

My fiance and I just received a receipt that BCIS got the petition form. It
is stated that it takes 150 days to 180 days just to get the petition
approved. Is that true?? If that is true, that's outrageously long!!!
I've heard people saying that it took them 1~2 months at the most, what is
going on?

And..another question, in the U.S. Department of State homepage
(http://travel.state.gov/visa;fiancee.html), it's stated that "two-year
foreign residency requirement for former exchange visitors is also
applicable. (for eneligibility or waiver)"
Well, I've been in U.S. for about 9 years studying then I came back to Korea
March 2003. Will I be ineligible for petition?

Please help me~ Any information will be great! Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure but it must be Texas because my fiance is lives in Seattle.

If you are going through seattle then it cannot be texas. Most likely to be California or somewhere on the west coast.

sadly that is the case.. it seems to be taking forever.. I think we were around 180 days when we filed last march.. I doubt it has changed much.. some people seem to sail thru certain centres at break neck speed.. but thats not the norm..

there is a marriage based group on expats, you should find some support there if you need it

Unfortunately, 180 days would be lightning speed by CIS standards. You are
lucky that you are a US citizen and get treated to this preferential
treatment. And this is unfortunately not sarcastic, it really is
preferential. If I sponsored my spouse, it would take approximately six

In another post, you were saying that your fiancee is from Seattle. That
means that she would be filing in the Nebraska service center. That's
moderately good news, the really slow one is the Texas one.

As for the home residency requirement, this only applies to certain people
who were in the USA on a J-1, and not all of them, either. Since you say
you were studying for 9 years, my guess is - please verify this - that you
used an F-1. In that case, the HRR is not a problem.

I am not sure what Service Center you are having to go through but my fiancee and I went through the TSC, and what a journey it has been.

I sent in the paperwork back in May 15, 2003
Approved on July 15 2003 (although we were not notified til August 25th.)
Sent to NVC
Sent to U.S. Embassy in Cario on Oct 7th
My fiancee's interview was was Feb. 10th 2003

Now we are just waiting for the visa (that is I am assuming everything is fine, they told him they wanted to keep the passport so they can sent the visa to him.

Just want to let you know .. it's a long long journey and my suggestion to anyone who is going through this.. Just be PATIENT ... ROME WASNT BUILT IN A DAY....

They are only doing their jobs and now days it's better to be safe then sorry.

And, yes, I was on F-1 Visa.
The service center we are filing is actually the one in Nebraska, and I
guess it's a good news. :)
I am just hoping that we don't have to wait for such a long time. Thanks
