Default K-1 (I129f) Visa Approval Question

Hi Everyone,

My fiancee had his interview for a visa on June 3, 2003 and they said
it was approved. But they said there was still some processing in the
U.S. to be done before he could actually have it. It has now been 65
days and we have heard nothing. If we call the National Visa Center
they say they never heard of us and have no recoird of our request.
They said we should call the consulate in Amman Jordan. When I do that
I always get someone who immediately on hearing my request for
information transfers me to another number that eitehr is busy or just
goes dead.

Does anyone have any idea where I can call just to make sure they have
not lots our paperwork? And to find out at what stage in the process
they are at (I am assuming it is the name check)?

And why would they say "Yes! Your Visa is approved!" and then go
through this long process with no clear information to us about what's
going on? It seems they should do the name check before they tell
anyone the VISA is approved.

Thanks for any advice and help!

I suspect that the consulate is doing a security background check with the
FBI and CIA. Jordan is one of the countries where this happens to almost
all male applicants, except for the very young or very old. Unfortunately,
it can take at least six months.

The best thing I can recommend is that you contact your Congressperson.
Unfortunately, even Congresspeople can usually not get a lot of
information.

Hmm

Do you have copies and receipts of all notices received and all your
paperwork? If so and (especially if not)I think you should go to an
immigration lawyer.

I have one idea of where you can call. Get on the phone to your
congress person and let them know what is going on.

Kasia,

Yes I made 4 copies of everything I ever sent. Kept two copies for
myself, sent one in and sent one to Ali in Amman. And I also have all
the receipts from the overnight mails and everything. I haven't wnated
to go thru a lawyer yet because while I know many lawyers are very
good, I have talked with people who have used lawyers for this process
and they are way behind me in this process because in the 3 people's
cases that I personally know of, all three had problems because their
lawyer's assistants sent the papers to the wrong place or forgot parts
of the paperwork.

I also did email and mail to my congresswoman. Earlier in this process
she had one of her aides contact me with 3 hours of my email but now
at this point when I contacted her, it has been 10 days and so I tried
again 2 days ago and still have not heard. But it's that time of year
when people in elected offices are busy trying to keep their jobs so I
am guessing this is why I haven't had a reply. :-(

Thank you so much for your reply and your information, I guess I will
just keep waiting and trying to find "the magic office" where someone
knows the status of Ali's approved Visa!

Wendy, don't mess around with email. People can ignore it. Just do as
Kasia says and *get on the phone* to the local office. Ask to speak with a
person in charge of immigration inquiries. Ask for a copy of the Privacy
Release notice. Fill that out, and fax it to the office with a short cover
letter from yourself describing the situation, and perhaps one key Receipt
Notice that proves that the case has taken beyond the usual processing time.
At that point, you have become "a case."

Phone again to make sure the fax was received. Phone again 2 or 3 days
later to ask whether an inquiry was made. That's how you get results.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I just have always had this feeling that if
I bug anyone in the government too much it'll make them mad and they
will cancel his visa.

I will try today.
