k-1 Amsterdam - 10 weeks?

Good news for those of you wondering "how long the approved petition takes to get to
the consulate." For our petition (approved on March 13, 2001) it took 7 days to get
to Amsterdam by diplomatic pouch. I called this morning to inquire about opening a
provisional file for my fiance to speed up the process and was told the approved
petition arrived today (March 20, 2001) and they would send the checklist out to him
today. Great news!!!...
...BUT....
When I asked how long the process would take, setting up the interview, medical, visa
issuance, etc....I was told "the process could take up to 10 weeks from receipt of
the approved petition." I asked the nice lady if it REALLY took that long....same
answer....
So, my question for the collective wisdom of the group is...does it REALLY take
10 weeks??
My optimism must win out at this point, because I actually got to talk to a real
person, which NEVER happened at the TSC...but any news or advice would be helpful.
Grateful in Texas...

You should feel very good in the fact that your approval got there in 7 days. I have
been waiting 9 weeks for my approval to reach the Moscow Consulate and it is still
NOT there yet. According to the consulate it should get there within 4-6 weeks. I
wonder if it' s lost?

It is likely to take that long, because this consulate REQUIRES that the police
certificate be sent DIRECTLY to them...and it usually takes most of that amount of
time for them to get it. this requirement also is in force if you do DCF at Amsterdam
also, and this is why DCF at Amsterdam usually takes 2-3 months.

I was VERY excited that the approval arrived so quickly...and surprised. I
anticipated at least a month so was planning to request a provisional file be opened.
Is it possible to call the state department and track yours down??
Good Luck...and hang on...it will all be worth it in the end

Thanks Alvena...your advice is always welcome. And thank you for remaining involved
in this process long after you were successful.
Is it possible in a small town to "encourage" the police department to send the
certificates more quickly? My fiance has only lived in one place.

The police department is not at all involved in this proces. The certificate is
processed at the "ministerie van justitie afdeling justitieel documentatieregister"
and there is nothing you can do to speed that up.
