Just The Beginning
I'm hoping someone can give me some friendly advice
My boyfriend is going to start the long process of filing the I129F Petition for Alien Fiance(e) I live in Birmingham, England.
He is in Iraq at the moment. In the military
Could someone please advise me of the steps and a rough estimate of how long the process might take - I do understand that every case is different.
He will be issuing it to the Texas Service Center.
I also wanted to know a little more about the medical a little further down the line. What type of injections do they expect you to have had, I intent to get all mine and my son's done asap at the doctor's surgery as I have heard that doing it at the Priory (Birmingham) can be quite expensive.
I just want to do as much as I can to maybe speed things up.
I would really appreciate your help
Thank You in advance

Re: Just The Beginning
The best bet to look for timelines is on http://www.visajourney.com/ Also read their FAQ. Looks worse than it is.
It seems that they are procesing applications dated 1st April, which seems extremely quick.
But once you are processed you still have a few more stages to go through, say another 3 months.
The best thing you can do to speed the process up is to get all the documents/info together that you need and make sure that the forms are filled out correctly, not rocket science, but a pain.
You will need a Police Certificate which could take up to 90 working days, so once you have filed, I would apply for that.
I can not remember all the jabs you need but all pretty normal and any you are missing can be done after the medical. I think they are listed on the US Embassy site. I was missing one so had it done before I came over.
Good luck

Taking 40 days right now and understand it cannot be more than 90 days old
at the interview, but this may be consulate specific. Hire a specialist in
marriage/fiance visas, someone with a proven track record of successful visa
assistance.

Re: Just The Beginning
How long is a police certificate valid for?
With the exception of the U.K. police certificate which is considered valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, a police certificate is valid indefinitely, provided you do not return to the country and reside for six months or more, if it's your country of birth or current residence. The period is twelve months for any other country.
Source: US Embassy web site
How long a police cert takes depends on when and where you have to file, I ended up asking for 2, the first one took nearly 90 days the second half that time, both London. Just go to the local police station, I think they need evidence of who you are, Passport, and a utility bill to show where you live.
You do not need a Lawyer, but if you have problems filling forms in, have an immigration issues that we do not know of, or just feel more comfortable then by all means.
Your fiancee will have access to legal help, JAG?, I may have the initials wrong.

Oh well I'm not changing it now and it doesn't seem to be an issue on any other site.

I don't have any advice as I'm K3 not K1. Just wanted to say hi and ask you what the weather's been like today. I'm leaving for England today, I'll be in Birmingham tomorrow. Getting the coach from Heathrow to Digbeth.
