Default It's Time....for the N-400

I'm getting Steve's paperwork in order for his N-400.

On Page 4 Part 7
A. How many total days did you spend outside of the US during the past 5 years?

We married October 1998, so he was not in the US for a year before that, how do we
answer this question? Give the entire year he wasn't here from 1997-1998?

Page 7 Part 10
B. Affiliations

8a. Have you ever been a member of or associated with any organization, association,
fund, foundation, party, club, society or similar group in the United States or
in any other place?

I take it we need to list these two he is a member of BBB and was for two years a
member of the chamber.

Chamber of Commerce (for our business) Better Business Bureau (for our business)

Part 10
D. Good Moral Behavior

Does he have to list his speeding ticket that he received October 2001?

Sorry to ask what may seem to be silly questions.........but just wondered what
others put down.

Hi Steve & Lisa,

I had that same question that you have when applying for N-400. Since his
citizenship application is based on marriage to a US citizen, and the requirements
are only 3 years, you only have to enter the total days that you spent outside the US
during the past 3 years (instead of five). Hope this helps.

Jennifer is right. I used the same premise to answer the question

I would say yes, and list these two organizations. If that's what they are looking for, fine. If not, it wouldn't do any harm.

Part 10
D. Good Moral Behavior

I listed a ticket I got for a minor traffic violation. Once again, since they say list any "citation" in the same breath as "for whatever reason" (I think that was the wording) many say you should.

Sorry to ask what may seem to be silly questions.........but just wondered what
others put down.

Thank you Ranjini )

Does this also apply to where Steve has lived and worked in the past 5 years?
(Part 6 A & B)

Couldn't they make the form a bit easier to understand taking into consideration 3 &
5 year differences....nahhhhhhhh ;o)

Also, would it be ok just to put the day he got the ticket, where and for what?
(speed trap on Route 8...lol)

Thank you for being patient with my silly questions Ranjini!

Kindest Regards........

Lisa

I would imagine what applies to the one should also apply to the other. If he wants to mention where he worked before he came over, that should be ok. Whereas when it comes to time spent outside the US, one needs to apply the three year rule based on marriage, as time spent outside the US is taken into account when they consider elegibility.

Also, would it be ok just to put the day he got the ticket, where and for what?
(speed trap on Route 8...lol)
Yes. I attached a continuation sheet with more details to show that it was only a traffic violation. Because the form itself doesn't provide enough room. And threw in a copy of my driving record which mentions the nature of the violation for good measure. I expect you have seen Carole's post where she has been asked to provide court records on how the issue of her husband's "arrest" was resolved. He too had a traffic citation. I'm hoping that by adding a copy of my driving record, that dilemma will be resolved. And hope the people at the Spokane INS sub-office are not that stupid.

Thank you for being patient with my silly questions Ranjini!

Kindest Regards........

Lisa
No question is stupid when dealing with the INS. Always best to compare notes with other forumers.
Best regards.

I would think the answer to both questions should be yes..

There are no silly questions when dealing with the INS..

Default N-400 Fee & Fingerprint Fee.......

Ok, here is another question.

Did you pay the fee for the N-400 ($260) and the fingerprint fee ($50) in one check
or two separate checks?

Thanks in advance ;o)

ONE cheque fpr $310. You will find this stated on the document checklist you got with the N-400 package. And don't forget to write the A# on the back.

Lisa, no big deal!! This is what the process does to you. Actually, the N-400 is a piece of cake compared to some of the other crap we have been through, don't you think?
Best wishes,

We paid with one check, and received a NOA back (dated 6 days after the received
date) from NSC that had the following:

PAYMENT INFORMATION:

Single Application Fee: $310.00 Total Amount Received: $310.00 Total Balance
Due: $0.00

AND my wife received another NOA (dated 9 days later) instructing her where (Detroit)
and When (in 5 weeks) to appear for her fingerprinting, so I guess all is good

The notice also says to bring:
1. This Appointment Notice
2. Photo Identification. Naturalization applicants must bring their Alien
Registration Card.

It also warns that: RESCHEDULING YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL DELAY YOUR APPLICATION. IF YOU
FAIL TO APPEAR AS SCHEDULED BELOW OR FAIL TO REQUEST RESCHEDULING, YOUR APPLICATION
WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED.
