IR1 Visa, then leave USA to wind up UK stuff

Ok , so currently awaiting I-130 petition authorization prior to Visa application at London DCF. Assuming everything goes well and IR1 visa granted (married 16 years) I have a question about entry.

My wife will be moving to USA probably prior to my visa being granted.

Upon my port of entry and visa being activated, I would like to spend short time like a week with my wife, then return to UK to hand in my notice at work , wind up UK stuff and then fly back to USA after say a few months.

Will any of this cause an issue, am i correct in saying the IR1 visa once endorsed at port of entry becomes the temporary Green card and as long as I do not leave USA for long I can reenter on this visa / endorsed stamp after few months back in UK sorting things out.

Thank you

You can most certainly do what you mentioned. The I-551 stamp in your passport is your green card. The card, itself, will be mailed to the address you give at the POE upon entry. You can return to the US using the I-551 stamp in your passport.

I did exactly that. Went over in April this year to use my visa before it expired, then came back to the UK a week later to finalise our move. Moved over officially in July.
