Default Social Security Number IR1, The system does work, sort of!!

So I received my social security number today, only 6 working days after landing in the USA, so it seems that for some the system does work.

It's a shame they got my name wrong on the card, so I need to visit the local social security office anyway.

At least I have a number!!

And protect it. This includes questioning and refusing to give it to everyone who asks. E.g. my dentist asked for it and I said no... A year later we are still without issue.

And did you apply for this through the visa application process ? or by going into SS office upon arrival in USA ?
