Interview confusion :/

Hi,
You have all helped me in the past and I'm hoping you can do so again. I have spent all day pulling my hair out and finding different things. I am aware I'm probably not using the correct terms but I really find this entire thing annoyingly complicated!
My fiance submitted the paperwork for a K1 visa in December last year, it got lost and we re-submitted in April. Everything went through fine, he got his NOA and then about two/three weeks later I got a letter from London telling my to send them certain forms etc. I did all that and sent it on the 5th September. I know on the 1st September something changed with the process, a different form or something? But it said letters received prior to the 1st didn't need to follow the new rules, so to speak.
My medical went fine, little odd and awkward, but I don't have syphilis which is always good to know
Then I've not heard anything since, and that's over a month ago.
Anxiety was setting in after losing one application so I called the helpline and the man I spoke to said my case was last updated on the 10th October and a interview would be scheduled soon and I would be informed within the week. It's been over a week and still nothing so I called again today, the first person I spoke to referred me to this website then I told him we had already submitted everything and I was wanting an update on my case he transferred me to a man who told me that my case number has no record attached to it?
So I started a lot of frantic online research, bad mistake - I just ended up with a pounding head ache.
Long story short... Does the embassy get in touch with me and give me an interview date? Or do they get in touch and tell me to schedule an interview date? Or do I just go ahead and schedule one?!

Yes.

No. They schedule it for you, and tell you when it is.

There is no way for you to schedule your own. They do it for you.

The embassy is probably experiencing a backlog, just be patient. Don't call them anymore...it's very common to get different stories each time you call, which will just frustrate you more.

Thank you, it's just so infuriating not knowing! I'm so used to being able to google myself an answer in seconds. This is really testing my patience [and finding it quite lacking...]!
Thank you for your quick response. A month isn't a crazy long time to wait for an interview date then?

Nope. I'd say 6 to 8 weeks is typical.

Ah our instant gratification world. Even I (at 29) remember having to find the right page in an encyclopaedia rather than just 'Google it'!

Good, because undiagnosed syphilis can be fatal.

Does the embassy get in touch with me and give me an interview date?
Yes - as long as you notified them that you're ready to be interviewed.

Right! I hadn't even thought about the possibility of having it but sitting in that waiting room I convinced myself i was riddled with that, and the cough I had was definitely the beginnings of TB. Then all my anxious worrying led me to think I probably have a mental disorder.
But I managed to bluff my way through ;)

I notified them with a ds-2001 form of readiness. Is that what you mean? It's quite irritating, a fortnight after I got my letter everything changed to online forms and emails. All that paper I wasted!

Take a look here in the right hand column: http://london.usembassy.gov/ds2001.html. I suggest you contact them according to the new requirements.

I saw that but when they first updated for that they said it only applied to applicants who received their letter on or after the 1st September and mine came on the 20th august so I kept to the old system. Hmmm

I just got an e-mail I have an appointment scheduled for the 7th November at 8am. So early! But yayy now I can start worrying about all the things that can possibly go wrong at the interview :rofl:
Thank you for answering my inane questions.
