Default Interveiw cancellation - HELP!

Hi folks,

I am hoping to hear from people who had a similar experience, but any
advice will be appreciated.

I have - just today - received a message stating that my interview has
been cancelled. I received my interview notice just 2 weeks ago and it
was originally scheduled for Dec. 5th.
I have called the 1-800 number and was told that it was cancelled "due
to unforseen circumstainces" - whatever that means. I was also told that
they will notify me if it gets rescheduled.
Anyone had a similar situation?
If so how long did you have to wait for the next appointment?

My case has been pending for appr. 250 days now and I feel like
everything is just going the wrong way. Right now my whole future career
depends on getting that GC and I was hoping that it would be over on
Dec. 5th but instead I get a cancellation.
What should I do now?

BTW, my case is based on marriage to a citizen. No RFE, fingerprinted 6
months ago. Any input?

Thanks,

Venus

Please could you elaborate the "my whole future career depends on
getting that GC".

You can have an EAD, and therefore should be able to work freely in the
US.

I would take "unforseen circumstainces" to mean USCIS messed up and
scheduled two interviews at the same time or something like that.

Thanks for your response.

If they had to cancel because they scheduled two interviews at the same
time why would they cancel mine if I'm waiting longer than I should
have already?

But I guess there is no answer to that, it's probably a random
process anyways.

When it comes to my career - I am applying for medical residency right
now and not having a green card singnificantly reduces my chances of
securing a spot.
I have been offered interviews at some top programs in the country but
unfortunatelly all of them ask for my immigration status. And that is
where I come short. It's sad how a delayed processing can mess up the
rest of someone's life.

Yes, there is no obvious logic to which appointment gets cancelled. I
really doubt that the lenght of time since application is taken into
consideration. I think that it's something more like they cancel the
second appointment that has been scheduled (or something like that).

As for your career, the US government and its agencies are the only one
that are authorized to discriminate. If you apply for a program at a
private institution, what they're doing is illegal (that is specified
on the I-9):
"It is illegal to discriminate against any individual (other than an
alien not authorized to work in the U.S.) in hiring, discharging, or
recruiting or referring for a fee because of that individual's national
origin or citizenship status. It is illegal to discriminate against
work eligible individuals. Employers CANNOT specify which document(s)
they will accept from an employee. The refusal to hire an individual
because of a future expiration date may also constitute illegal
discrimination."

But then, I don't really know how you could go about enforcing it and
still get the job. If that really is the only way you could get the job
you want, you may want to consult an attorney familiar with
discrimination.

Well, all that is very interesting. However, I don't think it helps me
in any way.
You see, residency is not really considered a "job" but a training
program.
And what they pay you is not a salary but a "stipend". Those stipends
are funded by federal government and a lot of hospitals do discriminate.
They will tell candidates up front that they do not accept foreign
graduates, or only accept US residents and citizens. They worry that
somone who's immigration status is not secure might not be able to stay
commited to the full length of the program.
And drop outs reflect badly on the institution.
I am just afraid that once confronted during the interview I will have
to start explaining myself and that will kill my chances. And they can
always say that I was not accepted due to poor performance, not my
immigration status.
This battle is lost before it even begins.

Even if you had the interview on December 5th it does not mean you would
be approved or get a stamp in your passport on that date. There are
those who have waited a very long time for the card to arrive in the
mail, and they did not receive a stamp in their passport at the interview.
Hopefully you will have another appointment soon, get the stamp in your
passport and be able to enjoy your residency. That is, if it is possible
to enjoy what they put residents through.

Yeah, that's true.
But I'm really looking forward to residency.
I will finally be doing what I love to do. I would rather work 80 hours
and enjoy it than 40 and hate it - like I do now.
Hmm, this whole case is a mess from the start.
First my attorney messed up and instead of helping our case he made it
even worse (btw, a grievance case against him is pending final decision)
then I don't get my EAD until I go and ask for it, then they make a
mistake on my EAD so I have to go through hell to correct it, and now my
interview gets cancelled. Just my fre..in' luck...

Same thing happened to me. Apparently, it is a pretty common occurence
nowadays...

Did you receive it via e-mail? If so have many days later did you get it
in the mail?
Was your interview rescheduled yet? And for when?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm just freaking out about all this.

Venus

P.S. what is your DO? Mine in Hartford, CT.

Nope. Actually, I never got any emails from USCIS. My online case
status has remained unchanged for some time, even though I had my
biometrics taken, got my interview appointment and then got it
cancelled.

> Was your interview rescheduled yet?

No, it happened just a few days ago.

> P.S. what is your DO? Mine in Hartford, CT.

Sacramento, CA, but my interview got cancelled by Lee's Summit.

If you go to www.visajourney.com, then to forums, then to the AOS
subforum and a few days back, you will find my question (very similar
to yours) and a few answers.
