hi this is my first post so please go easy on me.
i have lived as part of the `black economy´in lanzarote for three years.basically everybody i know dosnt pay tax or register with the government.i realise it is MUCH stricter in the u.s. but would like to hear from anybody that has done it (if they dare speak up).i am thinking about visiting for a 3 month `holiday´,getting work if possible then seeing how it goes.surely some brits still try this?.before i get blasted off the forum is there a semi-legal way i could try this? i used to work for a large uk based company with branches in america but i know they will not entertain me just sending job applications from spain by email.could i turn up on their doorstep and possibly get work?.also what is the longest i can stay as a visitor in the u.s.please.?

No. You can search for work, but you can't actually do the work and receive pay.

If you still worked for one, you could have them put in for a transfer for you to USA.

Highly unlikely, as they will want to see proof of your eligibility to work, which you won't have.

90 days on the VWP. Are you planning to use the VWP, or apply for a B1/B2?

Much easier to do if you can speak Spanish, so you do have a major advantage.

You might not like the pay or the hours.

Thats true, the Aussies are pretty clueless on immigration and let any Tom Dick or Harry work and live there. Come to think of it so are the US, hence why thier are 11 million illegals working without documentation.

Really? That's why they have all those people staying in detention centres!! No, if I were you, the USA is a much better idea - here we let people come, show up for a preliminary hearing, after which they disappear into society never to be heard of again.

Ask the immigration officer for a list of jobs you can do on the side during your visit .. They will help in any way they can ...

noorah, i was planning just to find someone who wanted cheap(ish)labor at first,no questions asked or documents to produce.boiler,believe me, the pay and hours here in lanzarote could not be any worse than the states,and i do speak some spanish. i was kind of thinking along the same lines as pianoplayer.

No you have not posted in the appropriate place. This forum is for LEGAL migration not illegal activity in your host country of visit. Yes, there is an underground economy in the US and it is fueled by illegal immigrants who are looking to make a living for themselves and the folks back home. They also have the hope that one day Congress will provide with a means to negate their illegal entrance, overstay and work by enacting a law that will pat them on the back and reward them for their criminal actions.

Go look elsewhere for assistance.

Yes quite true. To get into Australia you need to have some kind of discernible skill and at least three years experience in it. It's not like the USA where you get in with specialist skills like "my brother lives in Omaha" or "I married a bird from Spokane."

If 50% of your children live in Australia they can sponsor you. Also, if it can be proved so, there is a last remaining relative visa. Nonetheless, the Australian immigration system, like Canada's and NZ's is a skilled worker system. That of the USA is a "get in cause your brother lives in Spokane WA" system.

I would argue that 'tis the USA that lets any old bugger in. And as for his experinece - perhaps distribution of dubious merchandise?

The US requires you have the Job first ..or you marry the bird from spokane
My brother living in omaha .. is hardly a quick way ..he has to be a US citizen and it will still take 10 years plus ..

Those who entered other than through the proper channels do call themselves immigrants, which personally annoys me, but that's life.

Not sure about the folks back home bit, the ones I know are not. Obviously some do.

Some may hope to legalise their status, many are not bothered either way.

Reminds me of an English guy who took advantage of the last amnesty, he was queing up, was told by the guard that it was for them not you! Discrimination in reverse.
