They didn't seem to upset at none or n/a or even stuff left blank. I was surprised actually.

Ah, the old "n/a" vs "none" conundrum. On the I-129F and the G-325A, they do not ask for a "identification number" but as pointed out, do ask for an "alien registration" and "social security number." It is correct that the "none" is a better answer than "n/a" -- although my practice was to put in a "dash" since there would be a number later issued and make it easy for it to be interlineated.
On the "identification number" request on the DS-156, it does have the phrase "(if applicable)" in the request, and for the UK, it definitely is "not applicable".
No harm no foul.
