I485 Process and time
My I-485 is pending at VSC. Exactly what happens when my application is
reached. If approved, do I get the GC immediately? What exactly is the
timeline after that? Basically, I look at the current processing date and
then estimate that my application date will be reached in 6 months. Of
course, this estimate could change drastically but when I estimate 6
months - do I also need to add a few months for other paper work and
processing after my application date is reached?

Re: I485 Process and time
I-485 is the Adjustment of Status (AOS). Which means you may not travel outside the US, this I hope you are aware... you may leave the US if you have applied for I-131 Advance Parole.
When I-485 is approved your passport gets stamped. Green card arrives in 6-8 months.
Meanwhile, it's a long wait.
Good luck.

If all goes well, your I-485 is approved and an approval notice is mailed to
your address. You are a permanent resident as of the date of approval, but
you have no valid evidence of that fact. The approval notice does not
count.
If approved, do I get the GC immediately?
You must take the I-485 approval notice to your USCIS district office and
have a stamp placed in your passport. This is valid evidence of PR status,
and it allows you to travel outside the U.S. and re-enter, and to be placed
on the payroll of a new employer.
You will also have a fingerprint and signature taken by the USCIS district
office, for processing into your PR card.
What exactly is the

After some time, which varies from weeks to months, the PR card will arrive
by mail at your address.

You may have to add a few months to reach the end of the process, that is,
receiving the card itself. But for other purposes, you are a permanent
resident immediately.
