Hi Ben,
The exact dates were, 26 June 2009 I130 documents sent to California Service Centre, 1 July 2009 I797 receipt notice received, 21 September 2009 e mail notice of approval and website updated, 25 September 2009 I797 approval notice received in the post. Letter states Visa petition is now being sent to NVC.
Hope this helps, but from months of reading post on here, cases and timescales do vary a lot.

Wow!! That's the exact date my wife sent in the I-130 as well, and then we got the NOA1 June 30th, but no approval yet. Did you ever get any error messages trying to check your case status online? Whenever I try to check the status using my receipt number I get an error message telling me that my case can't be found. Same thing happens when I try to check the status via phone. Who knows, maybe/hopefully the petition will go through fast like yours did! Good luck on the coming steps towards getting your visa! I'd love to hear how it goes, since I'll have to go through the same thing!

Sorry to state the obvious but make sure you input the 13 digit number without any dashes, e.g. EAC1234567890 (I input my number incorrectly several times)
Other than that I'd relax for a while, you're not that far behind Traceym's timeline. Give it a week or two then if still nothing you could start thinking about more inquiries.

I also, like YWFWT put the case number in wrong a few times! I have never called them so I cant help on that one. But with regard to calling I would not have even tried until after 5 months, which means had I have not heard by 1 December 2009, I would have called after that date.
The timescale clearly says 5 months so I guess you just need to sit tight untill December, and I'll keep you posted on how long the next bit takes, although I do now have all the documents ready to send when requested.
