Default I want my girlfriend to stay here!!!

Could someone please help me out..

My girlfriend is back in Ireland working on the final paperwork for a J-1 visa
to stay here for one year. We paid $2400 dollars to get a sponsorship through
www.cipusa.org. We actually had a company lined up already that she was going to
intern with and this company basically handled all the paperwork. Now she is
meeting with the embassy on sept 5 and should be able to fly out the following
day. I don't see it being a problem.

My questions are:

1) Did we get ripped off for this visa thing?
2) What can she do to stay after the year is up?
3) What about getting married? How long does that paperwork take? Will she have
to go home for a period of time?
4) If this is her 3rd time coming to the San Fran area can she mention to the
embassy that she is coming to stay with her boyfriend for a year. OR should she
not mention me at all?

Thank you for any help

Rob

Sorry about the repost.

Lets say she is subject to the two year rule. how hard is it to get that waived?
She will still be subject to that even if we get married?

Lets say we get married while she is here on the J-1 will she still have to go
back home?

Ohh and yes I am a U.S citizen.

Thanks for any help you can give. I really appreciate it.

It depends on the reason that she is subject to the requirement. (She
probably is not subject, if she's from Ireland. But she should check.)

See http://travel.state.gov/waiver_instructions.html,
http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/.../exchvisit.htm.

If she is subject, the marriage has no effect on her being subject. If she
is subject, she cannot get permanent resident status until her obligation is
fulfilled or waived.

See below.

It sounds a little high. Did you shop around? There are quite a few of
these J-1 sponsoring agencies.

Apply to change to another temporary status, or to permanent resident status
based on a marriage to you.

    > >3) What about getting married? How long does that paperwork take?

In San Francisco, about 8 months, as reported here:
http://www.shusterman.com/aos.html.

Will she have
    > >to go home for a period of time?

If you and she file Forms I-130/I-485/I-765/I-131 at BCIS San Francisco, no,
she does not have to return to her home country as part of the process of
getting permanent resident status. As soon as the applications are filed,
her stay in the U.S. is authorized, and she does not have to maintain any
other temporary status. As soon as the I-765, application for employment
authorization, is approved, she can legally work for any employer.

It's probably better not to mention you except in response to a direct
question: "Do you have a boyfriend in San Francisco?" Otherwise, she
should indicate her purpose as participating in the J-1 program.
