According to the information I have found, you must be a PR for 5 years before you
can qualify for any Medicaid programs. My husband Ken (Canadian) is also not
impressed with the US Health Care system. He got pneumonia a few months after he
moved to the US - we had separate bills for the emergency room visit, the hospital
stay, the doctors, the x-rays (they were sent to another hospital to be read by a
specialist) - all in all I think we were lucky to only have bills of just over $5000.
We are still paying it all off. Take Care. Shelley

Does that also include any Company benefits that your spouse would have in the US?

Worst of all, the hospitals and doctors usually don't do their own billing. Seperate
companies bill for everyone (medical billing companies), and none of them are
coordinated. A group of chimpanzees could do a better job. Long after you've payed
all of the hospital and doctor bills off, you still get notices saying you owe, or
why haven't you payed?

Employers can offer any type of health insurance they want, and those that offer it
generally extend all benefits to family members of employees. These policies and
their regulations vary from company to company, so you'd have to check with your
spouse to see when you can be included and what benefits you will received. Medicaid
is a federal funded insurance program for those with incomes under 100% of poverty
and no employer health insurance. It has nothing to do with health insurance provided
by employers. It is means tested, which means it is not available to new immigrants,
except in certain categories (I believe those filing based on asylum can apply for
these benefits) Take Care. Shelley

You're right about that, (the price). But it's always been a vicious circle of the
doctors and hospitals and insurance companies ripping each other ff. -- That has
quite a lot to do with the cost. And because of money, that's why we'll never see the
National Health here.
