Default I need some advise....

My fiancee is in the Philippines. We are planning to get married this coming December. I know I have to get a paper from the USA embassy stating that I am legally able to marry, but how long would it take to get that? I will be on a very strict time table of about 3 weeks. (Dec 15 - Jan 3) Does anybody have any advise for me? Ways I can make the paperwork go alone faster?

I think you need to post more information. Are you a US citizen? Do you
plan to live in the Philippines or in the US?

I am assuming from the fact that you post here that you plan to live in
the US, and I am also assuming that you are a US citizen (not based on
anything specific, just a guess).

In that case, you have two options. You can either sponsor her for a
fiance visa, or you can get married and then sponsor her for a spousal
visa.

If you sponsor her for a fiance visa, you have to file a petition for her.
About six months later, she can visit the US consulate in Manila and pick
up a fiance visa. Then she can travel to the US and marry you in the US
(she has to come to the US before the wedding, and cannot leave again
until after the wedding, and a lot of paperwork has been completed).

If you want to get married in the Philippines, you start out by getting
married. Then you return to the US without her, file a petition for her,
and about a year later, when it is approved, she can visit the US
consulate in Manila and pick up an immigrant visa. She uses this to travel
to the US.

If you want to get married in the Philippines and bring your new wife with
you right away after the wedding, I am sorry but there is no way US
immigration law allows that. You either have to wait for the paperwork to
be completed after the wedding, or you have to get married inside the US.

Yes I am a US citizen. I know I have to get a paper from the US embassy in Manila saying it is legal for me to marry. What I want to know is how long will it take to get that permit?

Who requires this paper? Philippine authorities? In that case, somebody
else here might happen to know about that, but it is really a bit outside
the scope of this newsgroup because it doesn't have much to do with US
visas.

To satisfy US authorities, as a US citizen, you would have to provide all
marriage certificates and divorce decrees that you ever got in your life.
Of course, you would need as many divorce decrees as marriage certificates
;-)

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
