Default i got dumped before the visa finished!!! fines?

Well, hard at work and on the last precious steps of the visa, my fiance
throws us all for a huge loop and dumps me... (short sad story - no one
knows why he did it, but i digress)

Can he be fined for this? I am just curious, as I have not yet informed the
INS (was holding out briefly in case it was discovered he has been overcome
with some sort of delerium... or cold feet ;p). But as it is... I mean, he
filed the orginal papers for me, singed and notarized half a million or so
things stating that he promised to marry me, support me, etc etc... you know
the drill but, those signed and notarized documents were not promises
made to ME - they were made to the INS! Does he get hit with a whopping
fine?

Anastasia (not sure if im cheering FOR or AGAINST a fine!)

you might find that after a while he will change his mind will if you want him to of course
Hang on in there..!!

The answer to your question is, nope, no fines etc...the petition will be abandoned, end of story...I'm sorry you had to go through this, but I suspect better now than later, as he sounds like a flake......

As JCS said, no fine. There is no reason why INS would impose one. Face it, they ask you to pay a fee to process the petition and that fee is paid for upfront. If the processing is terminated, then that is the end of the story as far as INS is concerned.

As for yourself and the personal issues, whatever the reason for his deciding to end your engagement, I can't put him down for it. Yes, it hurts like hell to be rejected but don't take it as a personal rejection of self but rather as an affirmation that the relationship was not as strong as one party wished it to be in order to fulfill the promises originally made.

I know that people want "closure" to all events in their lives. Some events can't be closed to the satisfaction of everyone. Forget him and go on with your life. The rainbow is still there; just a little more distant than before.

I am sorry Honey... God you must hurt. If it was sudden, he is probably
in torment over commitment and got a bad case of cold feet. No man would go
as far as to file all this paperwork and not be serious to start, I'm sure
his intentions were in the right place. Don't write him off, sometimes men
need to go in their cave for a few days... just let it rest, he may very
well come back. If he does, try to let it pass and don't figure he will just
do it again. We (men) can get serious anxiety over commitment. Let me tell
you, it happens to me, but then I talk with my Sweetie and as soon as I hear
her precious voice, or pull out her picture, all that commitment anxiety is
overshadowed with emotion. He may just be having a extra bad time.

My heart goes out to you.
