This sounds like fraud. Why woud he tell NVC he was not employed?
What personal issue would cause him to hide this from BCIS?

I know it might be personal, but you can be anonymous here...

Tt,
Something is not right in your case. But in any case, your sponsor needs to show last 3 years' income tax returns. If he doesn't have them, then he needs to give the reason with some proofs. But INS may find out if he had actually filed, but did not show on affidavite of support and then you will be in a big mess. Just come out clean and get a co-sponsor if his income was very low.
