Default I-751 turn around time?

Does anyone know what the turn around time is on an I-751? We filed
ours in Feb 05, received the NOA and letter of extension for one year.
I have a friend who did theirs a year ago and still haven't completed
it.

I'm just curious.

Also, I'm assuming it's possible to apply for citizenship while this
process is ongoing. Am I correct in this assumption? Also, what are the
parameters one must meet for filing for citizenship?

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

From reading posts on this forum, it seems that adjudication of the I-751 can take a year or more. If you qualify for citizenship before that time is up, you can indeed apply for citizenship while the I-751 is being processed. In fact, applying for citizenship will force the I-751 to come up for adjudication.

The criteria for citizenship can be found on www.uscis.gov.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Projected timelines and the requirements for naturalization are all listed on the USCIS website. Have a go at it.

My friend got it in 12 months, she lives in CA. I submitted mine in beg of Feb, 05. Have not received anything yet. It seems to me than CA is fastest Service Center according to the published info.
Does any body, who filed in Jan or Feb, 05 received an approval so far?

Hi:

On each individual case you need two items to determine the turn around time: the date of filing and the date of decision. Then its a matter of simple subtraction. There is NOT standard time for processing. It depends upon the backlogs at each Service Center. Also, assuming that the I-751 is "prima facie" approvable [e.g. you didn't file a joint petition only 18 months after grant of conditional permanent residence] the SC either approves it OR refers it to the local district for interview. So its possible for the Service Center to complete THEIR processing without YOU having a final decision. And I-751 transfers usually don't generate a transfer notice.

On your second question -- the answer is YES, you can. In fact, in most districts this will cause the district to request the I-751 so they can be adjudicated together.

3 months from sending in in I-751 application to getting 10-year green cards in post (adult and two kids).

My Conditional two-year residence was due to expire May 19. I applied sometime in March for I-751. I got a letter saying yes, make an Infopass appointment to bring photos and fingerprints. Made the appointment for June 2. Green cards arrived yesterday (June 16).

Too right, Texas is smoking. It's all that beef jerky they make out in Mesquite!

Incidentally, the Infopass appointment I made was only for me. On the online site it doesn't give you the option of making joint appointments. But I wasn't about to make three separate appointments. I figured I'd take my kids and their passports along with me and hope we could get it all done together. If not, I'd make new appointments for the kids later. My appointment was the urgent one because we're in the middle of home buying - an FHA loan - and I needed current proof of residency quick. As it turned out, they just pulled the girls' files and did all three. Don't assume that will work for every case, however. As Rete will tell you, I have traveled a charmed journey through the system, thanks, at least in part, to this wonderful forum.

Regards
