Default I-751 questions

Hi, all..

I've been away for a while and now need to take care of my I-751 which needs to be
sent between July and (early) October, to Vermont S.C.

I have pretty much everything set to go for the application: -Photos -Marriage
Certificate -Joint apartment lease contract -Life insurance policies with each other
as beneficiary -Joint bills - utilities, etc. -Joint Car loan -Joint bank accounts
-Tax returns filed jointly.

Hopefully that should be enough to reassure the INS we live as a happily married
couple. Our original interview was a breeze.

I was wondering what info people could offer regarding processing times at Vermont,
Acknowledgement of receipt of the app., what happens in the time between me filing
it, them acknowledging or processing it, original 24-month green card expiring, etc.
As I said above, the card will expire early October 2002. Do you think this have any
impact on our travels to Canada for Christmas this year?

Lastly, do you think I should include anything else in the application, and is VSC
the best place to file (I recall before with another application that VSC was
officially the place to file, but it was well-known that you could file in Philly and
have much faster service.)

Also, any good links regarding the I-751?

Thanks so much for your help.

Todd

Don't forget a copy of the approval for AOS, a copy of your green card, letters from
friends and family stating your living tolerated as man and wife. Karryl

<<Don't forget a copy of the approval for AOS>>

I really don't know what you mean here. The approval for AOS is your I-551 stamp.
And by the time removal of conditions rolls around you should be in possession of
your conditional green card. And that IS the proof. Ranjini

<I have pretty much everything set to go for the application>> Your list sounds good.
I hope you are throwing in some bank statements from your joint bank accounts for
good measure. And don't forget the copy of your alien registration card. You can see
the list of what we sent on my webpage at: http://www.geocities.com/ranjini_m/removalofconditions.htm-

I don't know how long Vermont is taking to send out the NOA, but from what I'm
reading on this newsgroup they seem to be pretty quick. The NOA will extend your
work and travel authorization for another year. So send out your application NOW.

The I-751 can only be filed at one of the four Service Centers. So if Vermont has
jurisdiction over where you live, that's where you file. Read the link I have sent
you. You should find more useful links there. Best wishes, Ranjini

Thanks, everybody for the good links and info.

So what I'm gathering here is they seem to promptly send out an approval to
extend your green card (via a passport stamp?), though it takes about a year to
get an actual new green card. Is this right? In any case, I'll get the thing
sent off promptly.

They don't give you a stamp in your passport until you are approved. But they do
send out a notice extending your travel and work authorization. When travelling you
will need both this notice and your passport. According to this webpage Vermont seems
to be taking about 360 days for approval:

Hope this helps, Ranjini
