I-751 questions
 

Hello everyone

I am sending off our I-751 this weekend. I've read the instructions in depth but I have some questions.
If anyone is able to point in right direction for any of the below I would very much appreciate it.

1) should I send complete documents or just pages with our names in it? For example our lease agreement is 40 pages long but only 3 or 4 pages have our names and signatures on.

2) is it wise to attach a piece of paper with each document explaining what it is i.e 401k, Auto Loan etc or leave it up to them to work it out?

3) I have seen people on here say affidavits of support are not necessary for I751. Is that still the case?

4) I am sending pictures - should I write descriptions on the back?

5) does the biometric and filing fee have to be submitted as 2 checks or can we send one with the total amount?

6) my wife and I have a joint account we use for savings but because we live in expensive Orange County we haven't managed to save a great deal so hardly ever use it. We have about 5 transactions on there in last 3 years. Is it still worth sending in this evidence? Perhaps with an explanation that we don't use the account very much?

Mainly just enough to show what the document is, and the page with both your names on it.

Leave it up to them. It should be obvious what the document is.

While I know that these things are not exactly the same for everybody, the thread I created details my experience along with documents, links, forms, etc...all in hopes of helping others in a similar situation. :thumb:

i sent full documents, although where possible I printed 2 pages per sheet on both sides of the page for large documents such as monthly bank statements with transactions. That worked out as four pages on one piece of paper, which helped reduce the bulk I was submitting. I did the same with the photos I submitted when I printed them off.

I included a table of contents with mine as you will see at the link above with a template. If memory serves, I also put a post-it note on each item explaining the purpose and what it was. Eg. Evidence of Ongoing Relationship -- Shared Bank Account Statements (MM/YYYY)

I didn't include any.

I put all my photos into a word file, and included a one line about each photo. When I was ready to send my I-751, I printed the document as explained above and included it in the package.

Thanks very much for the advice guys! Another question, my wife took out a new credit card a couple of weeks ago in both our names to pay for our vacation. Would it be risky to include this as it's so recent and may appear to them as though we are trying to fabricate evidence?

Please, Please, Please ... stop it. Why are you looking at things that way.

USCIS is NOT, I repeat, NOT, looking to see if you are fabricating evidence by submission of a recent credit card. They have evidence that you have submitted for the last two years. Why would one measly piece of information, invalidate your entire marriage.

I've got to agree with Rete on this... you need to step away from the computer and stop processing trivial information as though it's some sort of deal breaker. Removal of conditions is a pretty straight forward process... so when did your common sense leave you?

You guys are right, I apologize. I am happy with what we have. Although having looked at what Rich included, maybe not! We don't have as much as that! ha. We have the following;

Joint lease agreement for last 2 years
Myself as the beneficiary on my wifes 401k
Myself as a dependant for her work health insurance and benificiary for life insurance
Tax transcripts
Joint car loan
both names on registration for car
Myself as a authorized user on tmobile and capital one credit card
both names on disney annual pass contract
Travel itinerary for vacation to Mexico
statements for our joint account (although hardly ever used)
Photos

I'm sure that's ok.

You are not Rich - why do you think you need "as much as that"? He had what he had... you have what you have. There's no reason to believe that anything extra that he might have included made one iota of difference in his application. You're assuming that more is better... and, quite simply, that's not a reasonable conclusion.

We did not include any of the bolded documents in our petition. We never had and never will have joint loans or joint ownership of a vehicle. We never travel together. He won't travel so I travel with friends without him. I've vacationed in Europe three times without him and spend two weeks each summer at the lake all without him. His loss, not mine.

We were approved without issue.

Somewhere in the archives is our checklist and it is only a minimum of proof.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I do have one. Last question, this time a more technical one. The new I751 form has a question on it asking for an ELIS number (if any). I did sign up for ELIS 2 years ago when I paid my green card fee. I tried to log in to retrieve my account number but it said invalid credentials. I thought that perhaps I had forgotten my password but when I asked for a password reset it didn't receive any emails. I called USCIS and they said if I haven't used my account in 2 years then it will be deactivated. The website seems to confirm this as it says customers who paid the green card fee prior to September 2015 will no longer have access to their account.

I was thinking of putting N/A and attaching a note explaining the above. Does this sound like a good idea?

The lady on the phone said the ELIS receipt number is the same as the IOE number, which can be found on the back of the card. But the ELIS account number is different I believe, they contain different number of characters.I've looked through all my emails from ELIS and the account number is nowhere to be seen.

I wouldn't put NA, as the question is applicable. I'd put None. Doubt you even need an explanation.

I mostly agree with Rene - leave it blank and don't bother with an explanation. It won't matter one way or another whether or not you have one.

One last question, I promise! Will USCIS accept a cashiers check? I know that a personal check would be better for us as it's easily traceable when cashed but we don't have any personal checks to hand.

It doesnt say anywhere on the instructions that you can't.

I don't know for sure, but since you'd have to make a trip out to get a cashier's check, why not just get a money order, since that's specifically listed as acceptable?
