Default I-751: need some help

Where is the easiest-to-understand instructions or info re filing the
I-751? I have already looked at the INS site and found it a bit
confusing. Isn't there more of a "layman's" site about this? I seem to
recall there was a year or so ago, but now I can't find it.

Also: I recall when we got my wife's Conditional Permanent Resident
card, the woman there told us we could hand deliver the I-751 to that
office. But the web sites I looked at yesterday say that it should be
MAILED to Laguna Niguel (I think it was). (We live in Los Angeles.) If
we can deliver it in person, I would prefer to do that, so we can get
a receipt showing they received it. But also, I do not remember which
office that was and where it was, in Los Angeles. Can someone help me
with this info? Is there an office to hand-deliver the I-751 to Los
Angeles? Hours? Address? Web site?

And last but not least: When I looked at this stuff a year ago, just
to get an idea about it, I recall there was a "Fillable" I-751 form on
the net for free - that is you could download the I-751 and fill it
out by typing in the spaces with the computer, then print it out. Can
anyone direct me to such a form?

I know I could probably eventually find out all this stuff by doing
searches, but 1)I already did and came up with a lot of dead-end
and/or confusing leads; and 2) I don't have time to spend an hour or
two looking more and sorting through all the results, seperating the
wheat from the crap; and 3) if someone can just direct me to a site or
give me the info, that would surely be a time saver. I would do the
same for you if I had info you needed.

[Planning a trip to Costa Rica or Mexico? I can help! Ask in the
rec.travel.latin-america group!]

Thank you guys (and gals) for all your help!

What instructions are needed that aren't in the form's .pdf file?
Have you look at the form itself?

http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/f...iles/I-751.pdf
It's a fairly straightforward form.
1. Fill out form
2. Include documentation as described in the form instructions.
3. Mail form to Laguna Niguel as instructed. If the LA office will
accept it by walk in, it certainly doesn't say so in the location
information on the USCIS website. I don't recall anyone here walking it
in to the office in LA. It seems easier to just mail it and request a
return receipt or send it express mail.

It gets mailed to the Service Center in Laguna Niguel.
You get a notice a week or two later extending your wife's green card by
a year. In 6 to 12 months, CSC should send a notice telling your wife to
go to the local USCIS office to fillout some paperwork for the 10 year
card. The card was mailed to my wife a week later.

The form on the USCIS website is now fillable.
As noted above, it is at:
http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/f...iles/I-751.pdf

The instructions are in the form. This form is easy to find on the USCIS
site. There is a forms, fees link on the left side of the main USCIS page.

The form is fillable.
If there something in the pdf file that is not understandable, please
ask in the newsgroup or seek an attorney..

Again, the form with instructions is located at:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/f...iles/I-751.pdf

If you really want to contact the local office, you can find it easily:

1. go ro hrrp://www.uscis.gov/
2. on the left side of the main page you will see a link for
"Services Field Office Addesses and Information.

Thanks for the replies. It's not so much filling out the form itself I
was concerned about (though thanks for the link to the fillable form).
I was looking more for first-hand experiences, suggestions as to what
documents to include, things to watch out for, etc. - the kind of
stuff you can get more easily from people with experience than from a
government web page.

I am sure the woman at our AOS interview told us we could hand deliver
it to that office, so I was looking for verification of that, and
where that office was, since I seem to have forgotten. It wasn't the
same office where we went for the fingerprinting, I'm pretty sure...
Maybe you're right, I should just mail it; but I am nearly certain she
told us "It would be better if you bring it here instead of mailing
it." Unless I just imagined the whole thing! Maybe I'll ask this
specific question in another thread, maybe get the attention of
someone who's done that here in L.A...

So anyway, thanks for the info you gave; I was hoping someone with
recent similar experience with it in L.A. might respond... It always
helps to have someone who "just did that" to communnicate with...

I followed the I-751 instructions and concentrated on financial info. I
did not send any affidavits, photos or copy of our marriage certificate.
I sent perhaps 7 or 8 pages in total "evidence" but you may want to send
more. My idea was to send just enough to get the I-751 approved but not
too much and I am sure others would consider this a risky strategy so
don't necessarily follow my experience

As for what to watch out for I don't have any specific advice other than
to follow the form's instructions

The I-751 has to be mailed to the service center that covers your state

The I-751 goes to the service center only. It does not go to the local district office regardless of what you might remember the officer who interviewed you told you. Service centers do not usually allow walk in filing. You would be using the Laguana service center (CSC)

All the information you need is on the USCIS site that mr. Travel gave you. Also the site you are probably referring to is Doc Steen's site and it is no longer in existence. However, you can view actual experiences is here:

http://www.kamya.com/intro/cprintro.html

There is nothing cryptic about the instructions or the filing experiences. Everything on this petition is straightforward.
