I-751 - interview requested
We filed our I-751 through Vermont in January 2006, then received an
RFE requesting further evidence early in July 2006. We immediately
sent back additional evidence. Today we received a notice that our
file has been submitted to the District Office for an interview. I'm
disappointed since we sent a fairly comprehensive list of evidence (see
earlier posts). I had hoped we were done with USCIS, but it appears
not.
Two things that may have influenced their decision to request an
interview -
a) I did not take my husband's name when we married
b) We do not have mortgage/lease documents (lease was in place already
when we married) nor do we have joint bank accounts (due to a
disgruntled ex-wife)
I'm interested in hearing experiences from those who have recently
interviewed successfully through Boston.

Hi Sharon & Mel,
They sometimes just randomly pick cases to interview, as a quality control type of thing. It could possibly have no bearing on the evidence you submitted. Just a random pick, and you won.
Best Wishes,
Rene

I'm about to file our I-751 and we'll see what happens since I have the
exact 3 situations as you. I didn't take my husband's name. We rent
not on a lease, but a tenant-at-will so there is no document per se.
And, we do not have joint bank account by choice. I have access to his
accounts since he travels internationally quite frequently, but no
official "joint" account.
I have a feeling you were chosen randomly.
Please share your experience as I could be "randomly" chosen too!

We were not interviewed in Vermont, but were asked about a mortgage. I
don't have one since I paid off our house.
I mention this just for general knowledge because it seems leases or
mortgages seem to be important to the officers lately.

-I did not change my last name
-Foreign husband was/is not listed on the mortgage (did add his name to the deed)
-2 small joint accounts used for bill paying/house savings
I-751 approved without interview.

Re: I-751 - interview requested
Sharon and Mel -- even if this isn't a completely random selection, all it means is that the paper evidence wasn't enough for an outright approval so they want to meet you. A bit of a pain to have to go in but it doesn't mean they are suspicious or that you are in for a grilling... they just want to meet you and confirm with their own eyes that you are a couple, just like the first interview for the conditional green card. Don't be nervous and best of luck!

I spoke with my landlord last night. He has agreed to write an
affidavit, and have it notarized, about our rental agreement
(tenant-at-will) and how long we've rented it, terms of the lease, etc.
I'm also going to send a copy of both sides of our licences showing
that our addresses were the same both when we were staying with my
parents and after the address change at our new place. I guess we're
just going to have to go for it.
I am a bit worried about the length of time it takes to get the
Notification, though. My husband travels internationally for work, and
without the stamp in his passport, he's without work. Let's just say
we rely heavily on his income since it's over 2x mine.

Re: I-751 - interview requested
Luckily for us we got a new landlord not long before I filed the the I-751 to Vermont in July. And so I was able to submit a copy of the new lease signed by my wife and I. The old lease was only in her name because she signed it a month before I arrived in America.
But we don't have the same last name.

The landlord wrote the affidavit. It's great. Not only does it state
that we live here, but it states that he randomly comes over to do work
on the house and sees both of us here, and that we are living her as a
couple.
It was notaraized. So I'm good to go.

Yeah, that sounds really good. Plus you seem to have a decent person for a landlord which is extremely rare!

Re: I-751 - interview date scheduling?
Now that we know that we're going for an interview for our I-751 in
Boston, is there any way to know when that interview might be?
Normally I could figure out from other's experiences, but there doesn't
appear to be many I-751 interviews. We have trips planned in
Oct/Nov/Dec this fall. What happens if we're not available (or worse
yet not home) when the interview request is received. If it conflicts
with the trips, can we reschedule? And if so, how would we do that.
If anyone can provide me with some idea of a timeline between I-751
notice of interview and when the interview in Boston might be
scheduled, I'd appreciate it, ie. is it days? weeks? months? before
we'll have to attend the interview? How much notice will we get?
