from I-751 to citizenship: how long?
Okay, so my wife's I-751 application probably won't get processed until June
of this year. By that time, my wife will have been here for four and a half
years. Does that entitle us to apply for citizenship at five years?

Your wife is eligible for citizenship three years after becoming a permanent
resident, based on your US citizenship. (Other rules such as residency
apply). Normally you can apply 90 days prior to that date and she can do
that even if the I-751 has not yet been approved.

If she is qualified to file N-400, she doesn't have to wait for the
I-751 to be approved before filing. She can file N-400 based on the
time she obtained permanent resident status ( conditional status counts
). For most people here that would be after having resident status for 3
years (less 90 days) and being married and living with a US citizen for
3 years (no 90 day discount)

Jim,
The I-751 is not relevant to the issue of citizenship.
See the 'Guide to Naturalization' on the USCIS website. It is comprehensive yet understandable.
